Villian Stats (VPIP/PFR/AF): 62/32/2

I got two pairs, so I made big bets till the end, but then this loose fish check-raises me on the river. What do you think about this hand and what he could possibly have? Did I make the right call?

Ya. Committed at that point and your hand is good most the time.

I am not happy, that he raised, but at the same time I would also call. You are getting like 3:1, so you dont need to be good all that often. And while he probably has you beat a decent amount of the time with a rivered straight, a set or J8, he will also show up with a worse two pair or just a random spew often enough for this to be a +EV call. I try to not get to worked up about putting a fish on exact ranges, because usually its just not possible.

In that case you got him to pay big bets on the flop and turn drawing to 4 outs. Blackrain79 call this “the fish tax”. The fact, that the poker gods sometimes reward him for chasing after every draw, makes him come back to lose his money again and again. Without suckouts like this, there would be no fish in poker and no easy money to be made. So gotta pay your taxes with a smile :D
