Was 4 hands into the table and no other stats on villian.

Played Date: 01/16/2012
Limit: No Limit Hold'em Cash
Site: Merge

Position Name Stack
BTN Hero $10.24 (102.4 bb)
SB $9.39 (93.9 bb)
BB $25.74 (257.4 bb)
UTG $8.77 (87.7 bb)
MP $19.27 (192.7 bb)
CO $13.66 (136.6 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BTN with Kh Qh
2 folds, CO raises to $0.30, Hero calls $0.30, SB folds, BB calls $0.20

Flop: ($0.95) 9h Jh 7s (3 players)
BB checks, CO bets $0.86, Hero raises to $2.64, BB folds, CO raises to $13.36 and is all-in, Hero calls $7.30 and is all-in

My line of thinking was that I could fold out paired 9s and 7s, smaller pockets pairs and hands such as AK AQ AT. Called shoved okay or too spewy?

Thanks...the 2 hand analysis that I have posted have probably seemed like standard hands to most but to the noob like me I guess I need the reassurance that I am getting my money in good until I can say for myself "Yes, that was the right play even though I come out on the short end of the stick that time!"

Better to post and be sure than carry on playing and making mistakes. Gutshot +FD + 2overs otf 100BB deep there is pretty much no reason against any player, at any stake not to snap call.

Regarding the heros raise on the flop, could somebody please explain to me what the advantage of that is, as oppose to just calling?

It leaves options open for turn. Also if we call and miss our equity in hand takes a big hit and makes life difficult.

You are over 50% to win the pot with the added outs of the gutter. With the fd and overs its still 50. As well, you are getting a ton of fold equity by raising. I think ideally you want to be in position as the raiser/cbetter getting raised, then shoving for this formula to be best...correct me if I'm wrong....

I would raise the flop slightly more just so that, if called, we can make a pot sized jam on the turn. But that is just a matter or personal preference, WP NH.

If I am going to raise here it is absolutely with the intention of calling a shove. Basically what I am saying is this: If you don't know what you will do when he shoves, then just call the flop. If you raise then your decision should be automatic when he shoves.

I'm never folding, I think a call or raise is fine on the flop but prefer a raise to get as much in as possible before the action killer hits, obviously you are calling the shove if you raise.
