What sense if any do you make from this villian's river shove? You can ignore the stats since the guy was pretty much unknown and I only had stats for 2 hands. The villian's play was passive, so I was aiming for a small showdown pot.

CO: $17.95
Hero (BTN): $10.00

your pot odds are terrible so you need a mega-read that he has bluffs here a lot. Since he's passive I'd let it go.

Making sense of shove : he has a set / rivered straight / slowplayed AA or flop set etc. Just fold.

But otherwise, bet pot on the flop, big on the turn

Here's the order of thinking I used on this guy:

1) His stack is $7.21 to start, which more than likely means he's playing with a VPIP of 30+.
2) He called the flop bet. That had me think he's got a draw or 8x hand. The last one being less likely since I'm holding an 8.
3) No turn bet, draw is still dead. With fishier players I find that checking certain turn cards yields a higher return because they almost always bet the river.
4) The river shove was really weird to me, because all the possible things he'd want to continue with on the flop would rarely have anything to do with the turn and river cards.

I ended up rulling out big pocket pairs due to the passive play, and any completed draws since there was no turn bet and the river shove didn't seem to want a call. A few fish I noticed will shove when they have the nuts by the river, but since I've been in 10NL I've noticed that they will bet really close to pot or over pot if they have something decent.

This session was over $20 in profit, and I felt too curious since he played a really bad line and called the shove. He turned over Qs5s and ended up leaving the table.

Since there is more than one vote for a turn bet, what would your action be on a river shove if the villian called a turn bet since he'd be committed?

No. Just make a note and move on. You're not going to find enough villains that seem passive to bluff shove a missed flush draw like that. So just fold without a note on this shit

I think you're missing value on the turn. If you put him on a draw why do you give him a free card?

Keeping the pot small for showdown and letting a possible flush card come. Had a J/Q/A that wasn't a flush card came on the river I would have gave this hand up with a shove or large bet.
