just raise flop and take the small pot down, rather than playing passive like you did and lose because he catches up. your hand is good, but not great, there are so many cards that can come and beat your hand, why take the chance and see turn and river when you can end it here.
and btw, if he doesn't call/raise with worse, do you think he is betting 2 more streets with worse? because i think if he has worse than you do here and he misses he just checks, and you take down the same value you could have on the flop, but if he catches up you pay more when you could have won by now.
plus, if he has you beat he probably reraises on the flop, with lets say AK, and you get out, still losing less then you will by calling all the way to showdown.
i see close to no reason why you should just play it passive.
