UTG raises to $2.10, 2 folds

Hero to act...

This guy has just arrived and posted out of turn one hand before he reaches the BB. I guess he might know better and be annoyed that he overlooked this. I myself have found myself in this spot and bullied my way through that first hand.

His raise is large and for 20% of his stack. If I raise him I may as well shove. If I call the flop is gonna have an overcard like 50% of the time.

Take the low variance consevative line or fold and wait for a better spot? (that is likely to come!)

ALL IN and not close, not a high variance play, you are crushing his range.

Here is what is range likely is not QQ+/AK so any 2 cards minus the ones that beat you.

Ok perhaps I was being a bit of a pussy here but I haven't long since moved up to 10NL and have yet to find the aggression I had at 5NL.

When you say I am crushing his range so I should shove; shouldn't I be crushing the hands that this guy will call my shove with for said shove to be profitable?

Just thinking a 3X 3bet and shove any flop would get more value?

NL 200 live game anecdote:

similar spot, a reg came back from a quick break and was annoyed when the dealer told him he had to post to play in late position. There was a straddle for $30 and he raised to $100 from the CO. I looked down at JJ in the BB and $133 already in the pot and immediately announced I'M ALL IN (thinking in my head, are you fking kidding me with that raise, you clown?).

CO had just $120 behind, so a similar spot where he stuck in half his stack. He called with 77 (and won).

Obviously this is a different because there is $33 in the pot for him to steal instead of a few cents, but yeah I expect a small-mid pair here all the time.

He just put almost half his stack in, so he seems to like his hand very much and will obviously feel pot committed to call it off.

What range is he calling a 3-bet but folding to a shove?

(Answer: If he's willing to call that raise, he's willing to call a shove.)

Also having him fold any equity he may have with a hand like AT is OK too since he's already put lots of $$ into the pot. Yeah you'd rather have him call with AT but having him fold it is not a horrible result either.

Yeah sorry I had forgotten about the fact that he already threw in 20% of his stack. Its been a long day.

LOL the greatest +EV decision I ever made was to never play after work!

Hey guys, while I have your attention here and shamefully off topic...

Is JJ a standard IP value 3bet at 6max the way QQ is at FR?
