Well, another day, another session, another hand!

Got a nice session at 10NL today but this hand totally mesmerized me... I don't often expect to be in trouble with a flopped set but I could find so many ways I could be beat that I decided to call down and see what happens and it checked through.

Do you take initiative in this kind of multiway pot on the flop? The turn didn't help me hand so I decided to check for the same reason but I think I should have bet it. Not an easy one, is it a close your eyes and get the money in with 100bbs spot? I feel I play a bit too carefully because I just started playing 10NL but I don't often encounter such pre flop action and it's easy to put someone either on jacks (one of the caller) or kings (the raiser), or AQ.

Thx!

Yeah, in multi-way pots you should be more inclined to lead out. People are less likely to c-bet multi-way, especially with a fish in the pot.

You can also bet the turn, since a spade draw probably bets the flop.

The preflop play is really where the decision is. To squeeze or not to squeeze is really the question.

Probably we don't get it in here on the river I guess on such a wet board, but a set is a strong hand, it depends on the player. I feel good about our hand on the flop though.

But that wasn't even an option here. You could definitely lead out on the flop for value, I mean maybe he has a better set but that's not very many combos so no reason to assume that. You absolutely need to bet this turn, made flushes also aren't very many combos and you might get calls from a single spade that's now drawing. It's good we finally bet the river, but now none of the draws are calling. Bit too late to get any value.

Assume you're ahead here until you have reason to think otherwise, no reason to be so passive.
