Hi

Live game and no HUD stats.
Villain - on button. No real hand history against him, but he had been playing a nondescript game to this point. He was basically even and had no huge wins or errors that I had observed. Assume he is a reasonably good player, not fish and probably not a jedi.

Me - BB with QsKs

We both have about 100BB stacks

Fold to button
Villain - raises to .20 (2 BBs)
SB - folds
Me - call

I though about raising here, maybe I should have? Interested to hear thoughts about that.

Pot = .45
Flop: 8s4sJh

What to do? In general, I like to bet when I have a flush draw such as this as a semi-bluff. I find it gives me some info on where I stand, and builds the pot lest I hit my flush later. Often i will get a free river card if I check the turn (but not always and I end up folding the turn if I miss and get bet into).

On the other hand, if I donk bet here and get re-raised, I am going to have to fold….maybe if I check/call i can see that river more cheaply? Of course, I probably will not be getting pot odds on the call, and I loose all fold equity.

What would you do? Why? I think I may have answered my own question, but would like to hear your thoughts.

Thanks

Flatting OOP here is fine but I'm probably 3betting (fold to 4b to avoid AQ/AK and get KJ/QJ to flat).

Flop is relatively dry and betting out with a naked J doesn't make much sense, I'm good w/ the c/r on this board

no no no

first off 3 bet pre is what i would have done assuming villain is not a rock

secondly, c/ring is so much better in basically every way here, collect his cbet at least

finally please don't ever do something " to see where im at" your really missing the whole point of flatting then pre
