BTN: $46.97
SB: $10.05
BB: $10.61
UTG: $2.48
Hero (MP): $12.83
CO: $5.07

Pre Flop: ($0.15) Hero is MP with 7 :club: 6 :club:
UTG calls $0.10, Hero raises to $0.40, 1 fold, BTN calls $0.40, 2 folds, UTG calls $0.30

Flop: ($1.35) 3 :diamond: 8 :diamond: 5 :club: (3 players)
UTG checks, Hero bets $1, BTN calls $1, UTG folds

Turn: ($3.35) 4 :club: (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN checks

River: ($3.35) 4 :diamond: (2 players)
Hero bets $2.40, BTN calls $2.40

It was my intention to check-raise the turn with the nut straight, because I believed that the villain would be betting the turn with almost all of his range, including his flush draws, but I guess I was wrong. Preflop is a bit questionable too, given that a short-stacked player limped UTG. What do you think of the way I played this hand?

I assume you had reads when you tried this?

This opponent is less likely to float the flop because you cbet into 2 other players. And because the pot started a little bigger you can just bet/bet/bet all the money in.

I like b/b/b/f unless you have a good read that villain likes to try and steal if you don't cbet. Yea, I also don't like raising this hand with utg stack size, you have significantly less implied odds and occasionally they love to limp reraise.
