Classic set over set situation. Was there any was I could have avoided to get stacked ? Normally I would call this a cooler, but this happens to often to me. I mean I often win alot of small pots against tight players but then loose all my money on these big pots. Flushes vs. Straights, Sets vs. Straights etc. Is there any way to minimize the losses in such situations ?

I wouldn't call it a cooler since you were behind from the start. Nothing really you could do here. After the flop, you weren't going anywhere.

It's just a cooler, there is no way to lose less in this hand.

Not getting it in here postflop means you're more often missing out on value from A's that would call you, or some 2 pairs or something. The number of times you get stacked doesn't outway the value you lose if you play safer, I think.

I don't HATE the way you play it but my default would simply be to bet the flop and bet the turn. 3 way on this very wet board I would rather not let a turn card come off for free that could kill my hand, and BB could be trying to check raise you. Also having checked, I would not check call, I would check raise to around $2.70. On the turn your check min raise gives villain 4:1 to make the call, and you are now pot stuck, so you risk letting villain draw out and then pay off for the rest. I'd rather check shove, if I checked, or just bet it myself so that villain cannot check back the turn.

Yes, lead flop. Board is too wet for slow play.

Bet the flop and just accept these hands occur and there isn't anything you can do, especially with middle set. He could just have easily played a set of 4's the same way.
Losing hands and accepting it without tilting is an important skill to develop, the fact that you posted this hand is a sign its tilting you, water off a ducks back and this is why we have a bank roll.
If you really hate set over set just fold some of the smaller pairs (22-44) in early position a little more often.

We often miss the mistakes postflop being blinded by results or it being set over set.

But big hand play big

Personally id have just gone bet bet bet and not giveaway a freecard on flop.. its a dangerous board for a set esp with str and flush draws.

Check raising as played is also an option and just stack off on turn and trap flush draws or 2pairs etc
