$.10/.20 FL HE Full Ring: Stratergy not clear, was my EV call correct?

Hey All.

I posted on this forum months ago and realized that my game was terrible. I went away and studied (Still am), made my first deposit and am very busy evaluting my game. Looking back at some of my hands I have made some of the wrong play, but there are still some I am unsure about. If I am unsure what move is best according to stratergy, I try to use my immediate EV. I have four hands so far Im unsure about. But I will post one here and see If the other need posting judging by my repsonses.

right here goes my hand.
Im heads up on the river, holding 8D & 10D. The bored is 4C 10H QH 3C.
I would have folded this hand, but at the time I was unsure what to do so I calculated my immediate EV and called.
My calculator stated I was 1:1 to win and I was getting pot odds of 3.3:1. It was 0.20 to call a 0.65 pot. I called as my EV showed +0.22 for this call. Was I correct?

Also Is unsure what to do when the turn card is next - is it right to use EV in this situation too??

Thank you and have a good game.

generally, any action that is +EV is good for you (again generally, the one that is correct is the one with the highest EV). However, you should be aware that simply saying "my calculator stated i was 1:1" sounds... either clueless or really insufficient.

what did you put your opponent on? what are the positions of the players? is that the last round of betting? (you mention this is on the river, but there are only 4 cards on the board that you have listed.) what was the action on the previous rounds? is there any history between the players? any reads? and so on, and so forth... the questions that could be asked are many. take a look around and look how people post their questions, then try to give us as much information about the hand as possible... after that you can hope to get a more meaningful answer.

If you can post the action of the hand we can also help determine if the way you came to the conclusions. I've called off more money with less pot odds with ace high, so there are plenty of times when calling with second pair is ok.

Sorry, the board was. 4C, 10H, 7H, QH, 3C. There was only one raise to which 3 players folded to on the turn. I thought my opponent had queens but I was unsure. My sole opponent was in earley postion and I was one of the button. It was the last round of betting. I tried to use maths to help me answer what I should do.

Brings me on to another question - I am clueless when my calcultor states my win odds. In alot of books Ive read how do the authours calculate how often say two pair will hold up on average against a board with 3 of one suit?

hope this helps

I have realized im a fish out of water but I am dedicated to improving my game. please help.

Ps hand history comes shortly

Hand histories are much easier to evaluate when they are in a clear, easy to read format. Take a look at this post (second one in the thread) from a while back for some pointers. Welcome (back) to CardsChat, and best of luck to you!
