So Stars has brought out FTP and US players are likely to see most/all of our FTP monies but I want to know how optimistic my fellow players are that we'll see regulated internet poker in the US anytime soon/ever. So like we say here in the great state of WV, "Vote Early, Vote Often".

It will happen at some stage in the future. Really anywhere there is money to be made will eventually be regulated, and a slice taken. 2-4 years imo.

If that was true, cocaïne would be legal.

Also, there is money to be made in online poker, but some of it might come at the expense of less money being made in B&M casinos. And when you have a powerful lobby willing to block something, it's not always a good bet that they won't succeed. Especially in the US where all politicians are for sale.

You and I differ quite a bit in our political views, but that is definitely a statement (fact?) that we can both agree on.

Not all of them

only the ones who want to have a campaign fund.
;)
Which one are you talking about? :p

I am optimistic and say 2-4 years. Though it probably won't be all states which means it might not be as we would envision and like it to be.

2 - 4 is where I voted as well but sadly I think that may just be wishful thinking.

WV is one of those states which likely won't want it for the good of the people. And by people I mean the B&M casino people who pay, I mean contribute, a lot of money to our state politicians.

With players like Bally and IGT to name a few coming on board, I don't think it's as far away as some think... They would not invest the money they are investing just to facilitate one or two states in playing poker...nope...it's a coming...of course, just my thoughts... and just sayin....

Don't forget Harrah's, which was a big funder of Bill Frist, who pushed for the UIGEA being tacked on to that Port Authority bill in the first place.

This will vary by state -- NV likely will have it within a year, but other states will take longer. I do feel that the pull of $$$ will eventually draw all states in.

You didn't specific Federal or state, so I voted 1 year, because I think some state will have it within a year.

Federal is harder. 2-4 or never is my guess. Any group made up of mostly lawyers and people primarily concerned with lining their own pockets and getting re-elected is hard to predict.

When their is money to be fleeced from hard-working folks in the guise of regulation and taxes the Feds always take a piece, legally or otherwise.

Cocaine is legal, but only if the Feds say so. The caine family is found in several pharmaceuticals in use in the USA.

Everything the US government has done up to this point to interfere with Americans playing poker online has had everything to do with a long range plan to drag it under US jurisdiction in order to regulate and TAX it.

Now that their latest bluff (nah, this was a LIE) that the Wire Act somehow magically applied to internet gambling, has been abandoned by the DOJ, I suspect that they will move to as rapidly as they can to start creating a steady revenue for the USG from "legal" online gaming.

I voted for 2 -4. I'm really hoping that it's less. Hell I'm hoping it's at least in 2-4 years and not longer. Until then I'll just play low stakes and freerolls as I make it a point to withdraw monthly( don't want another FTP incident).

The best no bs statement so far.

What I fail to understand among everything else that our lovely politicians do is the current state of economy. I think now would be a better time than ever to pump tax funds BACK into the system through online regulated Poker. To be honest I do not think the casinos will loose that much as most people who I talk to are like me and play both places. I do however, tend to play more live poker as there is nothing better than seeing and feeling the cards in your hand.

At any rate I hope it is part of our economy in the very near future. Seems kind of stupid that all this rake and or revenue is going OUT of country since they can not get their act together.

pokerstars has no reason to buy Full Tilt, unless they are privvy to some information that online poker is about to become legal in the US. Pokerstars essentially bought a company for 750m that has no assets, and all liabilities. They are hoping to make a good name with Full Tilt customers and take over their customers.

They're buying software that's widely regarded as one of the best and huge brand awareness even with the problems that caused it to go out of business.

There's about 6.7 billion people in the rest of the world.
