Are you superstitious? Only when it comes to gambling? If so, you aren't very different than many others.

Many of my buddies are superstitious likewise.

When it comes to gambling, I would rather apply science to it.

Superstition is really silly to me, IMHO. I don't believe in black cats and broken mirrors bringing bad luck. I do not think that wearing the same shirt at every poker event will bring you luck. And its funny how even when it fails, they still do it.

One year they had a guy who tried to shave before the event and his razor broke, leaving him with a half bearded face. He played like that and felt finishing the job would ruin his luck. He still lost. And looked stupid doing it.

Not one superstition has ever been proven true. Not one. There is no science to it whatsoever. Those who do believe this kind of stone age crap tend to be the victims in society. They make life decisions based on hocus-pocus, and pay a price for it.

Focus on the math. ;)

when i started playing this game i was more superstitous i guess you could say. I would tell a friend that would watch/coach me through tourney's that "i wasn't feeling it" so I didn't make a call or shove that I would now. Over the time of playing and reading about the game I've learned to think of poker as part math, part skill, part luck

I am not,how dick tracy said is illogical...In poker you must focus on math and.....must be patient and try to observe other players playstyle...just don`t play at draws so many times :)

Remember, poker is a long run game, if you had some good results with bad hands you cant say its a "lucky hand" because your brain is just focused on the last results, so superstitious is illogical, anyway if you mentalize good results it will come.

All these people who aren't superstitious wear their lucky underwear when they play in big tournaments.

If people need to wear a favorite lucky shirt, underwear or have a lucky trinket it is fairly harmless. But if people have superstition such as a certain hand that they will always see a flop with, that will negatively impact their play, that is when I think becomes silly.

I am superstitious in some ways, I have a "lucky" shirt that I wear every Sunday so that the Cowboys will win, obviously it doesn't work or they would be undefeated every year, but I still wear it. I used to have a different lucky shirt that I wore out to the clubs because I scored a few times in it, so I figured it was the shirt and not my "dazzling" personality. Then a few habits I have is before I go into a trial and every day of the trial I watch a scene from My Cousin Vinny that pertains to that part of the proceedings (my fav is the opening statement when Vinny simply stands up and says "Everything that guy just said was bullsh**...I WISH I had the balls to do that just once..maybe on the day I retire..ha). Before a live game I have a laminated odds chart with starting hands on one side and odds on the other that I read over. Do these things help? Probably not, but I think that anything that makes you more confident has some benefit.

yeah , the' favorite hand ' move gets a lot of people in trouble . you may open your range a little , but as a cash game player the regs catch on to your superstition and exploit it . some superstitions read 'tell' to sharp opponents . if you have one , keep it to yourself !

Some of those activities would fall under smart preparation I would say!

Superstition is just human nature. I'm not going to trust any poker player that says he or she is above it.

I used to believe if my wife lay on the bed when I played in a big online tournament I would do well. This was not always the case! My wife and I still laugh about this odd behavior to this day.

Then don't trust me gnome, I am not!! I don't believe in "running bad" or "running good". Cards have no memory, each hand dealt has the same odds to be good or bad as the one before it. I may make comments at the table about "favorite hand" or "lucky shirt", but it is a smoke screen to make others think I am a poor player. Oh wait, I am.
