OP, my plan is to spend time building a bankroll to $80k. Then once reached, withdraw half ($40k), split it in 12 monthly payments via my bank ($3333) and start building a BR again knowing i'm covered for living/bill expenses for a year. Once that year is up, repeat. Hopefully be starting at 400nl and see where the next year takes me.

That's the plan. Optimistic, i know lol. If i don't make it to $80k then i was never good enough in the first place.

Do you have history of beating 400nl?

Hell no not at the mo. Im a micro player lol.

I meant id be starting at 400nl in my second year. If i managed to build my br to $80k, then i would have already been a winning player at that limit.

Big mountain, but im gonna give it my best shot.

Well good luck but micros to 400nl in one year is almost impossible.

^i disagree. But anyway,

Too many people giving OP shit IMO. I mean, playing 25nl was never his career choice and he knows he's not gunna be living ship it holla balla style. I say do it, I do and I love it. Doesn't mean you can't get a job aswell and when/if you get to low/mid stakes you can tell your boss to stick it.

Work at McDonald's bc at least it has promotion opportunities? Jesus Christ. can't think of anything worse personally.

I once heard that "poker is a hard way to make an easy living" and I totally agree. But ****, at least it's something we all clearly love

For sure - the first build to $80k will take a few years i reckon. That's even if i get there.

Everyones got to dream. I dont think theres many people in this forum who havent at least consiedered it and work hard enough and you may just get there.

I'll keep you posted! I don't plan on making millions. But if i could earn $50k a year playing cards then that would be amazing. It would allow me to travel the world as long as there is an internet connection, truely be my own boss (i work as a personal trainer and the clients choose the hours pretty much, which are early mornings and late nights) and the possibilities truely are endless.

I think if somebody wants something enough, they can achieve almost anything.

in greece people work hard 10-12 hours daily for 500 euros per month.3 dollars per hour online is better off but people are afraid to loose their jobs and let their families starve.they commit suicides every week and i wish i could teach everyone a bit of any game for 2 cents so that they could live in decency.theres nothing wrong with poker but u will need A LOT of courage and a bankroll that will make u feel safe. its not about blinds its about heart and devotion.u got it so dont ask around.try it overcome the obstacles cause ull find plenty keep walking and then ull know by yourself if ur made for it.

Nah by all means take a punt. YOLO and all that. Just the maths makes me think that it's going to be a massive slog under most circumstances, and that's ignoring the possibility of 50BI downswings

Mcdonalds hates you to.

I'm not sure why McD's would have such strong feelings either for or against me and I'm even more confused as to how you would know

I reject the question on several grounds...

1) Just bc something is conceivably possible doesnt mean it is likely.

Consider the following conversation b/w a father and son:

"I want to play in the NBA and im going to drop out of school and concentrate on doing that bc its possible..."

" It may be possible son, but its highly improbable and you need to be pursuing other avenues while sharpening your game for the NBA..."

2) What is possible now may or may not be possible in a matter of months given the highly fluid nature of online poker in the US and world at large. You dont seek out a job/career that has the possibility of becoming extinct without a decent pay off like high wages....etc.

3) You need to prove yourself profitable over a large sample size (100K hands +) to even begin calculating your win/loss rate and therefore to make an informed decision on doing this.

Right now your best course of action is to get in school and/or work and play rigorously on the side to build your skills and ascertain you true win rate in order to one move up in stakes to point where you can, one, really make money, and two, be able to plan better.

Note: I didnt proofread this message...I have things to do.

i dont think its possible to play nl25 for a living. even if you put in a load of hands, you're barely getting by. i suggest you work on your game at the micro stakes, then move up and reconsider.

I think it all boils down to your living expenses and outgoings, to determine which level of poker you can make a living.

As much as you would like to maybe think you would want to do it, I think once reality hits..after a few weeks/months, you might of had enough and now your hobby, has now turned into a worse grind than some crappy minimum wage job.

Yes it can be done. Especially if you don't have the whole wife and kids thing and live in a country where you don't need 2K a month to live on your own. That said, making 2k a month at NL25 requires some serious commitment and often mass-tabling (much more than 8) and not too many people consistently do it.
