The world of poker is so exciting for those who meet with it the first time or for those who have been for some time that the results of the surveys showed impressive things, let's some surprising data, out of the nearly 5,000 who attended 52% want to quit their job and become a professional poker player. This given to me was incredible, I did not imagine that it was something so solid the dream of becoming a player. On the other hand, another very impressive piece of information is the following, how much did you invest in training, coaching or poker education in general in 2016?

Poker Investment

I have purchased several poker books for a total of about $150 (Canadian).
For several years, I focused on the strategies in Bill Burton's book on small stakes, fixed limit, home games. It is a good place for beginners, but now I need to move things forward with more advanced strategies.

problem of books and that they get outdated too fast. even more now, that we live in the world of fast information, with so much technology, I advise you to do coach, live courses. Clearer that what you read me book has basis, and helps beginners to take a course to follow.

Well, I invested $ 150. but I made a serious mistake of playing without studying much, now that I am dedicating myself and studying more every day, with every defeat I have learned, I am seeing the positions exactly what to do and so on ^^, How I have lost everything now , I will only invest when I win some tournament at least in 3rd place, so, yes, I will be suitable to invest more money

I did not invest in poker training, I signed up for free poker courses, and I went for free, I think it's better to pay 100 or 150 dollars for a good education where you will be well trained to play professionals, I think that many players who play only freerolls will not be able to pay training, and those people who are going to seriously play poker need very good paid training in order to play well and win a lot!

I did not put anything into poker. I study my own mistakes, and this brings the result !!! can private learning and can help me become better, but I'm already a profitable player! Of course, the profit is not great, but I think that the main victories for me are still ahead !!!

I used to invest , but it was no good for me , many same mistakes again and again , no progress to my game , so I decided a very strict BRM , in order to controlthe losses and to keep on the fun of the game . In the future , when I win sth , definetely , I am gonna go fo the bigger prizes and invest .

Did you invest in poker?

I invested over 60k last year. I also say every one here has greatly under estimated their own investment. 1) entry fees are an investment for training. You won’t learn unless you play

2) Your Time has a value, if you spend 2 hours a night reading, watching instructional videos, watching poker on TV, or reviewing past hands. That time is valuable and needs to be accounted for.

3) Time playing counts also

So looking at my PT4 data for 2016 I paid $27k tournament buy ins, and I study/view training video about 5hrs a week or 260hrs a year. I also play on avg of about 4 hrs a day or about 1400 a year. So a total of 1660 hrs at a conservative $20 an hour value on my time gives 1660x$20= $33,200.

Add the two together 27,000+33,200=$60,200

sometimes it is difficult to continue investing, and not getting results, we are desperate thinking that nothing is right!

Hey. I'm a self-taught player. I did not invest money to learn poker. in pokerstars I lost more than $ 300 when I had very little experience. now I play freerolls and I have success sometimes. My game is getting better when I play a lot, and I analyze my game

I've never spend any money on poker but I'm still a newbie so I guess there is no problem in that. I'm still learning the basics and I have a free coach a.k.a boyfriend lol

I watched every season of Poker After Dark, and every season of High Stakes Poker, I watched a lot of you tube video's and studied Phil Hellmuth and Eli Elezra.
I even tried to study Tom Dwan a bit, but he is very hard to understand. after all of that, I grew my play money up to 84.1 mil on poker stars and never bought any chips, but I did collect their free $12,500 every 4 hrs or when I logged on each time. so maybe a mil. of that could have been free chips collected over a yr. my son just got me into poker stars last yr. in November. before that though I had been playing governor of poker, (First Edition.) That game was fun, but playing real people proved to be much harder. when I first started out I wouldn't last 10 min. then I would be broke and have to wait 4 hrs. to play again. lol.. I was trying to play stuff like K 3 and A 6 lol, crap hands, when I started folding ace crap and K crap I started winning.

Excellent point, I too have invested in books, two Phil Gordon, and a host of others. You are right about the books, after reading then playing, read again. To try and understand. I am sure a coach or school would have to be a lot better.

Only investments I've made other than playing is a poker set for £40 and cards. This forum and the Pokerstars school have helped my strategy, this forum especially as poker is not all black and white

today a range of options in the world of high quality poker teaching, online courses, and video lessons that are much more constructive than books!

playing live is another thing, the sensation of the eye in the eye, your opponent intimidates you with every bet, for those who are starting to suffer a lot with it!

I have recently began investing in a certain poker training site

Making the transition from live to online hasn't been easy for me, but I am improving greatly everyday

I was down over $500 at one point ( online), in the past 2 weeks I have shaved that number down to $165, playing micro cash games and tournies with buy ins of $3 or less

I believe my investment is helping improve my game all around, I'm at foxwoods for the week, I utterly destroyed $1/2 NL last night, in for $200 and out for $1100 in a 6 hour session!

I have been playing poker seriously for over a decade and one regret I have was not investing in training sooner
