In our local games, we have a few players that are completely social players. One guy has been playing locally for the last 30 years and I estimate he has lost around $500,000 in these local games over that time period. This guy is 64 years old, and has never taken the time to learn how to play poker properly . He plays every hand and wont pay attention at the table. He tells boring stories when he is in every hand, and is truly ": dead money" .

I am astonished how people can play poker for so long, and never even understand the basic fundamentals of discipline, betting, money management. I actually think this guy likes to lose his money at the table , but he doesnt really lose it, he gives it away.

I played with this guy last night in a POT LIMIT, dealers choice game. Heres a example of how he plays.

Its 4 card omaha hi only...the flop comes 3-8-j rainbow . He checks to me, I bet $60 , he reraises me $50 { which puts him all in} . I got top set, he has middle set. I call quickly and he replies " I know you got top set " . He goes broke.

So he basically admits that he put all his money in on the flop, with a 1 outer. He knows I wont bet big unless I got the hand . This is how bad the players are in my local games.

I agree, everyone has their own play style and each has its own purpose in the game of poker, the goal can be delusional and can be strategic

every player has his own playing style
motorhead ace of spades
If you like to gamble, I tell you I'm your man,
You win some, lose some, all the same to me,
The pleasure is to play, makes no difference what you say,

Many of us were not lucky enough have places where you can talk about the game and learn from others. I went for 10 years playing online and knew nothing about the game, and I lost a lot of money too. But for about the past 2 1/2 years I been working on my game right here, and it works. GL to you

I'm still a social player, but I learn each day new tricks and way of move, so my game get better and better day after day. Soon I'll be a regular player, and, why not a pro someday?

I don't make a living at it, and I don't win or lose enough to make a difference in my life. So, I consider myself a social player. But, I study the game and try to improve every session.

purely a social player.
In NZ we have quite a few Pub Poker Leagues with tournament games at various hotels and qualification process to reach their regional or National Finals.
A good night out at the local hotel or Club and everyone is accepted as a person whatever their appearance.
A drink, friendly company and a good night out (and I get to play poker for a while).
AND if you make their finals the top prizes are usually reasonable value.
