Has anyone other than Chris Ferguson completed an x$ to 10000$ challenge, where x is some small number and the goal is to get that tiny amount to a strong bankroll?

OK dumb question, obviously someone has. Durrrr probably. But any of us amateur players know people who have done so?

Just trying to garner information, thinking about writing a little post on these types of challenges.

Well, that depends. Can $x be greater than $10,000?

Like the old joke goes, how do you make $1,000,000 in (something). Start with $2,000,000.

I'll let you know when I get to $10k, tho. :) Stay tuned...

I read an article about Durrrr and how he started with 50 like most people on the site, I dunno if he ever busted but he was afraid to bust because asking for more might make his dad think he was some degenerate gambler... lol...

Durrr: 0 - 2 million+

His name is Tom Dwan and he's a high stakes cash game specialist. "Durrrr" is his screen name on Full Tilt.

As for going from zero (or close to it) to five figures, plenty of people have done it - I'm pretty sure there's even a few members here that have managed it. Most of the people who've done it don't feel the need to make a big deal of it though.

Thanks, very interesting. I just have to wonder, why would someone in his position risk so much of their bankroll, must be an ego thing. Those swings are huge! Doesn't he risk losing his entire bankroll maybe...

These guys have huge bankrolls, and often can draw on both each other and investors (who receive a cut of the profits).

I honestly think these types of challenges, where you set a high goal, can be detrimental to reaching that goal (they encourage bad br management.) Would you guys agree?

Sure. I think people do them for fun. I've thought about doing one, but can't imagine any of you care if I double my BR over the next year. Lacks excitement, ya know?

$0 to (something)

Having lost my entire BR I'm now slowly working my way back up on a couple of sites. On partypoker I now have $1.94 and on the new High Pulse Beta site I now have $3.75. I'm determined NOT to (re-)deposit on these sites and to grind my way up to a substantial amount BEFORE entering any kind of major Tournament. But it's mostly Nickel & Dimes at the moment so slow progress, but progress none-the-less. Although I have had a couple of Freeroll wins on Full-tilt and Carbon at $15 each... I still lost the lot though.

I think that the Zero to Hero challenge is worth it and provides encouragement and practice to rookie players out there who can't afford to deposit in the 1st place.
