Hey all, long time no post on my part but I’m getting back into poker again lately and I have a question. I’m looking to head out to Vegas sometime in the next 3 to 4 months and I’m looking to get into some low level No Limit Hold ‘em tournament on par with $50 - $150 buy-ins. I know the wsop is set to run from May 28th through July 3rd before the Main Event takes over, but due to a long run of being unemployed I simply can’t afford any of those buy-ins. My question is whether I should go before, during or after the WSOP in order to find an ideal couple of tournaments to play in.

My concern goes to the availability of tournaments before, during and after the WSOP and whether there is a drop off in the the field strength at any point or does it even out/increase? My thinking follows this line:

1) There will be fewer games leading up to the WSOP with a fair to weak field in attendance.
2) During the WSOP the number of games available will increase substantially throughout its run mostly anywhere on the strip and possibly even downtown while the field strength will vary.
3) After the WSOP the number of games will drop off again and the field strength will go up.

Is that about the size of it or am I way off? Thoughts?

Go during the WSOP. There will be much more of an option as to what game you want to play and where because of the increase in people in the city. I wouldn't say you should worry about the strength of opponents going up too much in that low of a buyin. Actually, you are more likely to get more of the out of towners who came to Vegas to rail and who are just looking for the same thing as you...

The WSOP has a complete array of satellites, from single-table to mega. They are starting these this year from May 27-July 8. Nightly No-Limit Hold’em tournaments will be offered from May 27-July 4 at 7:00 PM and 11:00 PM. I might be wrong on this particular statement, but I think they are held at any Harrah's venue.....

If you get bluff magazine, there is a pretty good list of the reasonable tourneys of the size you're looking for in the back always as well. Anywhere from about $40 and up.

due to a long run of being unemployed

I'll leave that alone.

I would think there will be plenty of players/games during the WSOP. Not to mention, many might be on tilt due to being knocked out of a recent WSOP event.

Thanks everyone for the input, I'll be making plans for it over the next few days.

Go during wsop

Check out allvegaspoker.com for a good list of the smaller daily tournies.
I use this one: http://www.winninginlasvegas.com/ Click the Poker Tournaments tab. Only one missing on that list is O'Sheas.

I'll be checking both of those place out tonight after work, I thin it'll be just what I need. Knew I couldn't go wrong asking here.

I'll leave that alone.

Yea, the recession kicked my butt. 13 months looking and I just started back up about a month ago. But as luck would have it the job is fantastic and it looks like I'll be doing some traveling from time to time, something I know I'll like.

...not to mention, many might be on tilt due to being knocked out of a recent WSOP event.

Duely noted, and something I hadn't really given much thought to!

Thanks again everyone.
