Ive heard rumors that the wsop may not be held at the RIO next year. Is it possible that Harrahs is selling RIO and will move WSOP to maybe Caesars? Any thoughts.

I heard from a very reliable source 3-4 years ago taht the WSoP would end up @ Ceasars evintually. My source goes to vegas 4-6 times a year and knows alot of people on the inside.

RIO is being sold. I'd say WSOP will not have a hard time finding a new home if needed, though.

Harriah's is trying to sell the RIO. If they do sell it, the most likey place will be Ceasars they move it to. They have more then enough room for it and alot of people think it should have been there in the first place.

I don't think it will happen, but harriah's(owner's of the RIO) is hurting for money. Who's to say they don't sell the WSOP with the RIO?

I will host the WSOP... just gotta find some chairs.

Who knows who holds the actual contracts to the WSOP? I wonder if the location change/new "ownership" will affect the games/limits/turnout... hmm

Harrah's owns the WSOP. They bought the rights to it when they purchased The Horseshoe so there will be no new ownership, just changing the location.

This isn’t the 1st time Harrah’s Entertainment has considered putting the Rio on the mkt, if a sale were to occur it would most likely happen/close after the 2010 WSOP….to relocate the event would be a nightmare logistically @ this point in time (then again this is Vegas & ’something’ may be there one day & gone the next). Although Caesars Palace is considered Harrah’s Las Vegas flagship property, they did acquire Planet Hollywood earlier this yr; from a branding/mkting standpoint, IMHO, that would be a better future location for the WSOP (I believe the Steve Wyrick Theater is currently dark but unsure how many peeps the venue accomodates). Additionally Caesars hosts the Mega Stack Series around the same timeframe as the WSOP, eliminating that revenue stream wouldn’t be the brightest of ideas (although they could decide to associate the WSOP with Caesars & Mega Stack with Planet Hollywood)…this is just all a guesstimate on my part but if I were thinking like a Project Mgr…hmmm, a # of possibilities since Harrah's owns 8 props here (including the Rio).

Here‘s the latest info from the Las Vegas Review Journal. Previously (a couple of yrs ago) I’d heard that the locals would like to see the Rio property return to a locals casino as it was when the Marnells owned it…they‘re kinda busy with M Resort so unsure of their liquidity for a current purchase.

From what I have read and heard the WSOP will still be held at the Riot his year..... They are actually in the process of getting a permit right now to add up to 120 more tables to accommodate for things such as last years last day 1.

I believe that they will move the WSOP to Planet Hollywood VERY soon, especially if they sell the Rio.

They'd never really be able to do it, but how about the WSOP ME...NCAA Tourney style.

East Region in AC, South in New Orleans, West in Vegas, Midwest in Indiana.
