Figured I'd throw up our annual Main Event Chat thread. First two levels in the books and Greg Raymer and Nick Schulman are already gone. Raymer mainly gone when his top pair and flush draw crippled him vs. a set. Then was all in with his favorite 88 vs. AA.

Lots of pros and celebrities playing on Day 1A. Should be interesting to see what the official numbers turn out to be.

This was a good one (via Pokernews.com)

Alejandro Quattrini and Scott Herd just had a super rare occurrence happen over at Table 295 in the Blue section of Amazon. First, Herd raised, Quattrini reraised, Herd moved all in and after some time in the tank, Quattrini folded pocket kings face up. Herd showed him that he made a good laydown, tabling two aces.
Just ten minutes later, Quattrini raised to 400 from under the gun before Herd reraised to 1,050 from the hijack seat. Quattrini moved all in for 22,675 and Herd went into the tank.
"You know what, I'm going to return the favor," said Herd as he tossed pocket kings into the muck face up. Quattrini showed that he had two aces.
What are the chances the same two players fold kings to aces preflop against each other in opposite spots within ten minutes of each other? And in the wsop Main Event? WOW!

There has been an empty seat all day at the table featuring Ray Romano and Vitaly Lunkin. It belonged to Paul Wasicka, who apparently didn't think he was registered for Day 1a. Wasicka showed up at the Rio to sort things out and was able to switch to Day 1b, meaning ESPN will have to make do without a recognizable face in that empty chair.

Too bad Wasicka didn't sit down, nearly bust Dusty's friend John and then say, "hey isn't Day 1B great?". :p

No video coverage. ESPN holds the rights for that and they won't be showing anything early, not even on ESPN3.com.

You can get live blog updates from Pokernews.

Obrestad was down to just under 10k. She is now on 18k after hitting a set on the river with 99. Lucky indeed as she was against pocket Jacks.

I liked this one myself:

TOY STORY

Posted 2 hours 42 minutes ago by SantanaBandana
During the Senior's Event this year there was an interesting character playing named David "The Toy Man" Cohen. Cohen had a chest of toys with him at the table and brandished different ones throughout the tournament.
The Toy Man is in the field today, and one of our expert field reporters asked him why he has the toys. His answer?
"I put them up and f*** with the other players."
Fair enough Toy Man, fair enough.

That's a boy.... Pay 10k just to screw with people all day long, Now that's entertainment.

lol

I have Brandon Adams on my fantasy poker list.... he took a horrific beat that has crippled him:

Brandon Adams and Paulo Rink just tangled up in a pot perfect for the TV cameras.

It was a preflop all in, and it was aces against kings. Adams had the

and Rink the

, and a big crowd of media and players gathered around the table as they heard, "All in and a call, Table 284!"

The flop drew a big reaction from the assembled group as it came out

to give both players their set but leave Rink dead to the case king. The turn

was most certainly not a king; The

on the river, however -- that was in fact a king, the last one in the deck and the only saving card for Rink. Quads beat aces full every day, and Rink has doubled up to 63,000.

On the flip side, that sick beat has left Adams with just 3,900 lonely chips.

KK's beat AA's all the time on suckouts. No big deal.

But when the BOTH hit a set and KK's sucks out on the river with the case K? SOOOOOO SICKKKKKKK!!!!!!!

Poor Brandon!

Pretty sure the odds are maybe slightly in the A's favor. Although my math is a little rusty

Not quite sure what you mean. I realize that AA's are better than KK's. What I said was that KK's suckout on AA's a lot (it seems). But the way it went down was very dramatic.

Maybe you can explain what you meant (I'll do my best to read through the sarcasm)......;)
