What do you think is the worst poker book written? It seems, with the Poker boom in 2003 a lot of books have been written. Some of them written just to capitalize on the poker crazy. I remember looking through Doyle Brunson's on on-line poker at the local bookstore a few years ago,Online Poker: Your Guide to Playing Online Poker Safely & Winning Money. It is one of the worst pokers I have seen. The reveiws on Amazon tell the story.

Ha - that is the same book I was going to say too. It is so elementary and of course out of date now.

Bad Books

Poker the Real Deal (Black Book)
Phil Gordon

After I read it.
Felt like I came out of a Bad Movie and said what the heck was that about.
Shook my head and walked away.

EMPTY FEELING .........

Phil Helmuth's hands down. The best part of it is the filler pages where he explains the rules and most basic of basics of every kind of poker game there is.

Negreneu's book is pretty bad too. He put his name on it to sell it, and 80% of it is written by other people. The section on Deceptive Play, by David Williams, is just a bunch of unrelated anecdotes on different deceptive plays he made. Evidently nobody told Williams that the point of writing a book is supposed to be to make generalizations and conclusions based on your experience. Glad the library was the one who wasted their money on that one.

I have heard some bad things about is Power Hold'em book. He was always mentioning it on his written and video blogs. It took a long time for it to come out. Then, it turns out, he wrote less than half the book. This is the same way Brunson wrote his Super System books.

That's the first and only and last book on poker I've ever read. I didn't learn a thing and the only bright spot was that it was a gift and i didn't loose any money on it LOL. Like I said I havnt read any other books.

The mammoth book of poker comes to mind.
Its probably not the worst poker book ever written but i hated it with a fire vengence :D.
Hate the writing style, the bleached ink, the badly expalained examples, the simply wrong math and the fact that the authour "explains" in the intro that poker is 99% luck and 1% skill with out ever explaining what luck is.
+ It isnt even written by a poker player but a bridge player :S

It wasn't a terrible book, but it was quite a disappointment after reading his first one.

I'm talking about Phil Gordon's Little Blue Book. His Little Green Book was awesome, but the Little Blue Book was more about him trying to be clever and making fun of his opponents. He should stick to teaching poker and stop with the wanna-be comedian stuff.

For me, it was Vorhaus' "Killer poker online". When I read his rambling opinions on the meaning of online poker ID's, I knew it was gonna suck. I hear his other books are good, though.

Actually, this. It was utterly dreadful and repetitive.

Don't know of a truly *bad* one, but I was disappointed in Negraneau's. One that I wish every poker player would read is Barry Greenstein's Ace on the River. Has pretty much 0 to do with how to play, but lots to do with how to act. I have pretty much any poker book written, but the one(s) I refer to before a big tournament are The Zen/Tao books. (Despite disagreeing with it *theologically* )

Another vote for Helmuths book (as the worst) although Esfandiari's cash game book I thought was pretty bad as well.

Never bought or read a poker book so can't comment on which is best or visa versa. I would hate to think I spent good money on a book that wasn't any good. Thanks for the information on poker books.

You know...now that I think about it, I can't think of a single thing off the top of my head that *any* of these books actually taught me. I'm sure I *must've* learned something, right? I just can't think of it. Maybe it's because I'd already been playing for 40 years before I ever read one.

Wait...I just thought of one. And, sadly, PH is involved. Read em' and Reap. But that has nothing to do with strategy, just tells.
