Hey guys, I think I'm getting worn out with poker! I'm on quite a losing streak right Now. The bad beats are horrid, and hell, I'm not even sure I'm playing my best game. I play every night for at least 4 hours and my bankroll is going down! True, I still have a little over $2000 in my roll, but It sure is down. I will have a hard time not playing, but I guess thats the right thing to do. I have some books I could re-read, but I never seem to grab'em, I just want to play! What do you guys think?

Man the detox is hard!!

1 day off and it will still be swimming in your brain, pulling you, luring you to that PC. 'Come Sammy, come to the PC and play poker'

Holiday required where no internet access available.

Good Luck. If you manage it, tell me how :)

Sammy,

Have a look at the advice I was given on my thread "Good or Bad". Probably applies here as well.

I'm in the same boat as you, Sammy...don't know what's wrong, but I've been losing overall.

I keep saying to myself that I'll take a break, but what is a semi-jobless loner to do all day? :(

Here's to the inevitable upswing!

Thats part of poker Sammy, Chuck and shortstack,, when your on the downside of poker just play some freerolls till the bad luck goes out the window, or take a week off completely, these things do happen, it might last 1 day or 1 year,, nobody can be on the Upside all the time,, i usually play freerolls till the bad luck passes,, GL Guys>>>>>>>>> buck:hello:

Disclaimer: Probably nothing in this post you dont already know.

But sometimes it helps to have it reaffirmed by someone.

I think a break is in order.

I hate to admit this but I lost almost half my roll over a month period and it was mostly due to me playing like a donk!

It started going down, at first just due to the inevitable downswings that happen, but then it turned into a downward death spiral. The weird thing is at times I would be losing due to wreckless play but then I just started doubting myself and my decisions and that my friend is not good.

I took a week or so off, re-read one of my books, and took that time to analyze what the heck I was doing. I went down a level and played with more confidence in my game. I also stopped mutli-tabling (for now anyway:p ) so I could really concentrate on what I was doing and get those very valuable reads on my opponents.

So, in the last week or so the roll is growing again and I am close to where it was before. And I feel more sure of my game than I ever have before.

Hope my little story can put some things in perspective for you and give you the little nugde you need to get back on the right track.

Good luck.

If you really can't think you can't take a break, play some freerolls. Those don't cost anything to play and will take your mind off from playing. Within those you can then deal with the bad beats and the drought you are in.

As of today I am also going on a break from poker. My bankroll at Titan is completely gone... (granted, it wasn't really a bankroll, it was roughly $20 won from CC freerolls, played Dirty Dozen SnG's, and got it up to $105 with a 64% placing in the money.) I had been receiving so many bad beats I couldn't believe it. I got rivered so many times, and usually that happens to me at prima, not Titan; I don't know if all of that got me off my game or not, but I went on a horrid losing streak. I kept playing 'til it was gone because it was free money anyway.

At RVP, after winning the CC freeroll I parlayed that $150 into about $300, after placing 3rd in a $200 Bonus freeroll, and placing 4th in a $3 buy-in tournament. Then I started getting rivered like crazy, starting Monday.

I played in a $19000 Guaranteed tournament ($10 buy-in) on Monday, Tuesday, and Yesterday. EACH time I bubbled out within 5 spots of the money, one time I was even in the top 10 when I got busted.

Monday - I simply made a bad attempt at a steal with pocket sevens. I raised half my stack (I was shortstacked) to steal the blinds on the button. The BB reraised me all-in... and I thought I would at least be a race, but nope, he had Kings... I tack that one on bad luck.

Tuesday - I'm in the top 10 spots with 72 players left, top 70 get paid. My stack was roughly 65K and I figured I could play my game to the final table. I have pocket Kings in early position and I raise 4X BB. The BB calls (the BB is the chip leader at about 190K) and the flop comes something like 964, something harmless. BB checks, I bet the pot, BB raises me freakin' all-in, and I'm like, wtf? I easily make the call and the BB flips over a freakin' 6-deuce. And, yep, the river was a duece. I went out in 71 place, going from big stack to no money.

Wednesday - Shortstacked, I held pocket 77s and made a min-raise and got 2 callers. Flop was all low and I went all-in and I got called by the BB who held top pair, a 6, and with a 9 kicker. I figure for an easy double up... but nope, river comes a 9. Knocked out before the money, yet again.

Today I figured I'd take out my last $175 out of RVP and use it on just whatever. Now I have to wait forever for them to actually make the transaction (they said it would take almost 8 days to have it transferred to my neteller account).

So... Poker has been giving me one hell of a headache lately and I'm taking a break. Prima has been rivering me to death, and my old friend Titan has began to river me as well. So I'm gonna read Theory of Poker again, probably get Online Ace, by Scott Fischman, off Amazon, and take a much needed break from poker.

It seems as if a lot of CC members have been having it rough lately.

My advice is this:

If you you are not playing your best game because you are frustrated by the bad luck, then by all means take a break.

But.... Sammy and Chuck I have seen you guys play and know you guys make money rather than lose it. If youre still playing your best game, then grind it out. Bad luck will turn good eventually. It always does. Its just variance.

Wow, 4 hrs a day Sammy? Wish I had that much extra time a day to play poker. I have to move closer to work so I dont have the 2 hour drive home every day :D
