I believe that people should have the right to choose what they want for themselves.
Freedom is the great flag the United States has all lifted up.
I think now is the time to put this into practice.

I hope so, I don't see the harm it would only generate more taxes. Hard to say what trumps thoughts would be on the issue.

They will if it can somehow be regulated, but it seems impossible to regulate/stop all the cheating that occurs in the online game.

it's true that the pokerstars site has been closed for a while because of American players, but I think not all Americans are the same. I think some of them deserve a chance. In my opinion.

There are big interests in land casinos that despise online gaming and poker. Sheldon Adelson has said he has massive stakes in properties which would decline if online poker was allowed.

Depends on your state's budget shortfall, tax revenues, political climate. Not anytime soon IMO

They should we are a supposedly free country. But now more socialist than anything. The government does not want you doing something they take the right away in a way that they say it is still legal. I believe congress just makes laws because they can or paid to do so.

I'd love this so much. Then you can actually have legit professional online poker players that live in the US. That'd be so exciting to me.

I am in NY close to the NJ border, Its a pain in the ass to literally walk down the street into NJ just so i can play online because I have to be in the state. Its the dumbest law. But someone said "its because we have dummies who make the laws"

I keep seeing these posts and they are incorrect. The only state with laws specifically regarding poker online is the state of Washington. It's no longer illegal on the federal level

This is probably the question most commonly asked by new players. The short answer is yes, online poker is legal in the United States on the individual level. ... Most states don't have laws against online gambling, but in some states, such as Washington state, online gambling is a felony offense.

Just check your state's laws. Hell I live in Kansas, a very conservative state, and all gambling online is legal here

Playing...and having an actual business be able to server up games to you are two different things. Its not illegal to play but in most states gambling sites can't operate. Its all a money thing. In Wisconsin we have india reservations that have casinos on them. I'd bet eventually they get into this and it breaks it all open.

I doubt it, Not enough push to do anything. There are lobbyist groups that do not want it and we really have no one lobbying for us.

They are legealizing marijuana all over the US and some states even legealized recreational marijuana but if I want to play poker online that is unacceptable. The feds need to make it a state issue like they are doing with gambling and they need to get rid of the ban already

Have to assume it will happen eventually. Its all about the money in the end and if they can tax and regulate it - they will.

It's not illegal on the federal level. Has been in states hands since 2012

On August 21, 2012, a federal judge in New York ruled that poker is not gamblingunder federal law because it is primarily a game of skill, not chance.

(I didn't bold those words lol, it came that way from my cut and paste)

Hello, personally I think they should stop playing online poker back in all states of USA. For many countries legalized online poker and is one of the modalities rather plays. The amount of tournaments and players in Linia.

Yeah that's crazy to have to physically go to another state to play online poker. Look at the bright side .... At least you have that option. I feel the same way about online poker as I do about Marijuana. Legalize it federally in the US, and tax/regulate it !!! There is soooooo much money to be made, and that money could go a long ways towards improving education, infrastructure, and multiple other areas.

On August 21, 2012, a federal judge in New York ruled that poker is not gamblingunder federal law because it is primarily a game of skill, not chance.
This seems to be a matter of interpretation, no doubt directly related to the individual judge's enjoyment of and proficiency at the game.

I think that it really has to do with the fact that gambling has always been categorized as one of the big vices in the US. As with alcohol, sex and drugs - the US has always taken the stance that vices must be controlled.
