Hello,
What is your honest opinion when you see a guy playing cards with his woman watching? I hear that the guy has an ego, they have problems being apart, etc etc. I never change my strategy and my ego is as big as an acorn.

My wife likes watching me, usually pops in and out from slots. She likes the free drinks, I let her take a peak at my hand, and she loves watching big showdowns go down. She is a fan of the game, but is always too afraid to try herself. I try to egg her on here and there...like to play 2/4 limit.

Does anyone else have a girl who watches them from time to time?

Have a guy at the local club who's wife sat behind him when he played for over 20 years. She never said a word to her husband during his play and only a few times would she even raise her eyebrows after a hand. Sadly she passed away last year. The guy hasn't changed his poker style one bit since then.

She's afraid to try poker, but not afraid to loose money at the slots??? That's backwards.

I will talk to my wife, have a few drinks with her, she chit chats with neighbors if they open up conversation. I never had a problem whatsoever, but I read a couple threads about it. It always includes a hard ass ego driven guy making his wife watch him play. I was just wondering what every ones honest opinion was.

lol yup, I can see how poker can be intimidating though. You are facing 9 other players and a dealer. I remember my first few times, I would drop chips, go out of turn, etc. Even once in a while if I haven't played in so long I get that nervous energy back.

I play a local cash game from time to time in a pub down the road, not really my scene but its convenient if the weather is shocking in town.

most of them have brought their wife/girlfriends down and as you could imagine one or 2 will try and show off by bluffing which isn't clever.

I think the answer to the question is - it depends on the location buy in and their partners understaning of the game,

I play in AC, usually Borgata or Harrah's, 1/2 cash game

Everyone for the most part seems laid back or doesn't even pay attention all that much. One guy made a comment jokingly about me dragging her there and I just laughed it off.

I'm pretty sure my wife would find watching me play poker to be the most boring thing in the world.

In either case though, this is something that's actually pretty uncommon in the live games I play. There's a rail that separates the tables from the public area at my local casino, and they have a pretty strict "players only" rule for people beyond that line. I think you're allowed to have people sweat you once you move up to the high limit area, but for regular games it just doesn't happen.

My wife would like for me to quit altogether. She has no use for poker. I have a tough life when playing.

I have seen people who do this. Just last week there was a guy sitting across from me who, as the tournament resumed day 2, introduced his wife, sitting alongside the table. She was not very close, she actually sat on a window sill about 10 feet from the table. Didn't really think much of it.

I have also seen when there has been someone sitting behind a friend, and they are taking "notes" on the table and relaying them to the guy playing. I don't think that is right, but, not against the rules.

Like excorsist said some places have rails that separate spectators from the game. Other places have no rules. I dont mind at all if the wife stops in for a drink or to get more slot chips lol. If they sit close it doesnt bother me but it does bother me if a wife or friends stands behind and drifts from side to side, that should not be allowed, who knows what their intentions are.

I prefer to go to the casino by myself when I plan on playing poker. as I don't want to feel rushed. took a girlfriend a couple times and that's exactly what happened , so I only take them now if I plan on not playing poker but just getting drunk and playing black jack with them

Same way @ the local casino where I play. Only the players, dealers & casino staff are allowed in the table area.If your not playing poker you stay behind the rboundary even if you have chips in hand & are registered & waiting for next available seat to open.

I will be at Harrah's and Borgata in AC tomorrow through Sunday with my wife off and on watching me. She likes to take a break from gambling and get free drinks in the poker room.

if your wife, girlfriend, etc will not effect you making the RIGHT decision on table.
I think it is fine.
else, would be +EV to play without help ....

think the situation is even worse
if your wife, girlfriend, friends etc etc. put your opponent on certain hands and ask you to call, to see if his/her thinking is correct, meeting his/her curiosity.
that will be a disaster on poker table...LOL

My wife just goes shopping while I'm on the tables. Unfortunately, it usually ends up being more -EV than her sitting there watching me.

One player per hand sir? lol jk. be careful though admitting this on the internet, because that is actually against the rules, even online.

I don't see an issue in it as long as they are watching because they want to not because they are made to. I personally don't see how unless it was for like a wsop anyone can watch for long periods but that just me. I would be dying to play after a while.
