Why is Norman Chad so prone to hyperbole?

Already arguing over whether or not the Justin Phillips/Moto Mabuchi hand was a bad beat over in the bbbv forum. At the end of that hand Norman says something along the lines of "When you flop a set of aces and river quad aces and still lose, now that's a bad beat!" He says it while disregarding the fact that he hasn't even been watching the whole hand to know how it unfolded.

Here he is claiming Peter Eastgate delivered the baddest of bad beats ever to Scott Montgomery YouTube - 2008 World Series of Poker- Worst Beat EVER! Peter's the favorite when the chips go in and yeah it sucks for Scott cuz the cards made him sweat/believe he was winning and Peter did catch a 1 outer on the river, but Peter was at 62% counting Dennis Phillips' mucked 6 when the chips went in, and Scott was short stacked.

I've got a feeling that there are hundreds if not thousands of hyperbolic statements like these made by Norman Chad. Thing is, you don't hear it from other commentators. You don't hear it when watching the aussie millions, or on hsp, or the wpt. I can't remember Gabe Kaplan or Mike Sexton getting all worked up over a player getting a non-bad beat after the chips go in. Just Norman Chad.

So is it just part of his schtick or what?

Stormin' Norman is the best poker announcer out there. He's the reason the wsop Main Event is the most watched poker on TV.
(and maybe the little fact that it has the largest prize pool :p)

He's a great personality. I'm not sure if that translates to great commentator.

Norman Chad

What makes Norman "good" or might make you scratch your head is that he's not making his calls live, except the November nine. All his quips are recorded after the fact.

Norman is horrible. Call a live event then maybe we can see what he really knows. Hes a comic whos barely funny. They need new announcers IMO to help the broadcasts. People watch for the poker. Nobody cares about Lan and Norman.

Norman Chad seems to know his stuff pretty well, but, he is the color guy.

He is supposed to be entertaining and he is.

I kinda like Norman. Even called him a loveable nudge. But there are times when he just creeps me out big time. For all of his "Mrs. Kara Scott Chad" stuff, he sure makes a lot of weird sexual comments about young male players. Hey it's okay for a guy to be gay or bi or whatever, but sometimes he just gets so creepy with it.

Maybe I'm overpersonalizing it though, I just know that if I was a 22 year old guy and some creepy old guy with a moustache was making sexual comments/advances towards me it would creep me the hell out. Shoot when I was a 22 year old girl and some creepy old guy with or without a moustache would make comments/advances it creeped me out. It's just creepy.

But for this thread I'm just trying to understand his need to overstate the situation and make it out to be worse than it really is.

Because he works on television. I just wish he'd cool it with the jerky comments. Maybe he should dress up as a SlimJim or something.

He is getting paid to talk. Maybe his comments aren't allways "A" material but he works hard at what he does and manages to fill hours worth of poker with some relevent talk and tries to sound enthusiastic and excited while doing it. If it was me I would be all talked out by the second show.

Kudos as far as I'm concerned
