i honestly don't get it. if they keep complaining about all the money being made and worrying about how to make more money... why not just.. make that money yourselves?

build a poker room. run it. rake it. MILK IT.

build a poker site. run it. rake it. MILK IT.

how ****ing hard can i be? i mean, you can easily just make the existing non state-run sites illegal and then force them to come to your site and bam.. you fix the problem of pokerstars having all the market share :p

while you're at it, why not short the stars club stock and BAM - you're really ****ing rich.. like, what the **** are they thinking? why have i thought of this, and wondered why they havent done it?

how hard can it honestly be? a bit of a start up cost for all the future income... come on. with state after state legalizing it, why isnt one stepping up and running it themselves?

its so fckn lazy... when there is SO MUCH MONEY to be made... but hey, i argue the same thing with pot.. make billions off tobacco but spend billions locking people up for smoking weed, right?

some systems are stupid but.. i feel like poker is outside the war on drugs so that stupidity should be limited... but hey, why dont i just run for office and pass this shit myself? lol

Things are moving in that direction. But at this point the Government doesn't have the resources to run a poker site. Have you ever used a Government website? They always look like they were coded in 1997. When I renew my car registration online, I hit [Submit] and pray that it works.

The smarter play for the states is to pass legislation legalizing it. Then you set up regulations. Then you push all the coding and bookkeeping off on the poker sites who actually know how to code. Then sit back and collect the money.

Politics is kinda like poker, a maniac will get hot and become chip leader only to lose it all on the FT bubble. You say to yourself why didn't he just dial it back. That's because he can't, the same reason why he got all those chips in the first place is the same reason he will ultimately lose them doing something dumb. Most politicians are the same. The same thing that allows them to rise to the top and become someone that makes the rules, is the same thing that makes them incapable of choosing the common sense best solutions.

Yes, but PlayOLG (in ON) doesn't offer poker do they? Playnow (in BC & MB; Espacejeux in Quebec) does, but they get very, very few actual real money poker players. It's not as simple as just opening up a (Gov't sanctioned) poker site and sitting back while the masses run towards it. You still have to create a site that players will want to play at.

I have a Playnow account but rarely play there anymore. I doubt that they are actually making any money from the online poker that they provide. If anything their Casino arm is making money.

It will be the most rigged poker room ever, with one more opportunity to plundering people in legal way. :D

I don't see this happening anytime soon but if it does God knows the rakes will probably be ridiculous and cash-out fees as well. I think this would be bad for sites like ACR and Bet Online.

just because they are always outdated doesnt mean that's good reason for them to stay in the past... i just don't understand why the public doesnt pressure to government to finally fckn step up for a change. arent there enough of us in the poker community to make a stink?

its literally just free money in the long run.. like growing money on trees, which luckily a few states have opened up to... i live in canada and unfortunately not in one of the provinces that took initiative to open their own online poker... we in ontario just got the shitty video poker from OLG online lol.

but this is canada... we don't have nearly the numbers as some of these states.. i just dont understand... why not take.. all of the monies... all of it... and while they're at it they can fix all their shitty .gov sites, too :p lol

its a combination of running it and creating new legislation that bans outside poker.. especially the unregulated garbage. if these companies want to compete and run in the country they have to pay per customer or something like that..

that way they still make money even if you don't play there.. and its so much incentive to just play there... knowing that you're paying for them to pay to acquire you as a customer.. could you imagine the rake? :p

Most governments would be horrible at running a gaming site, they dont understand it, they are not built for it and there would be too many conflicts of interest. But if they let somebody like the Nevada Gaming Commission run it - it would probably be smooth sailing.

In most countries except USA poker is still considered as pure gambling equal to slots and roulette by 95% of population and if you tell somebody that you play poker they look at you just like they look at criminals.

Considering this imagine that you are politician and you are willing to create such government controlled poker site. Tell me how you will explain to those 95% of your nation that you are going to use the money from their taxes to create sites and casinos where their husbands and children can squander their money. I think that you can easily see the problem here. For the government it is much easier and problem free to collect taxes from the private companies organizing poker games and ban those of them who do not pay than to get their hands dirty with something so controversial as poker. Unfortunately this is the truth for now.

Play with government officials in their poker? It's absurd. You will be forever in debt.

So you saying a government running by itself a poker room ?honestly I would never trust it ,but you have a point , it's really a good resource of money and instead of Bunning poker and gambling it could be better for them financially .

For christs sake. It's the values of the people. What's the message the country will send doing it? "Gambling is okay and you should do it lmao". Why would the do it, if they literaly are tteaching us from the young age that it's bad.

It would be nice if the government launched its poker room, it would be very good for those players whose poker is not allowed in the country!

I like it like it is! If poker mixed with goverements and states, it might would be controlled by the politicians. With the politicians we see around planet, this would not be so nice! Competition is improoving the game!
