Poker intrigues me because it is won of the few games that you can get rich from through the power of your mind and not athleticism. Also, it is also one of the few games that you can make money at as you get better. As opposed to say, football, where you only get paid if you are in the NFL.
I love the competition against other players and against yourself. You know when you should have folded that hand but couldn't bring yourself to do it, but when you are able to make yourself do it, its almost a better feeling than winning the hand.
Definately C and A. Maybe B someday but that's probably not gonna happen so I'm not counting on that one. I also play for the competition and the mental challenge.
The answer for me is in the winning. I hate to lose even if I am playing "old maid" with my wife. The first priority for me is getting in the money in any tourney or freeroll I play. That is a third stage win, then playing smart enough to get to the final table, that is a second stage win for me. Then going for the title, that is a first stage win. If you accomplish these your items A, B, and C will take care of themselves.
i would love it to be for money, but not really concerned about that. just trying to play good and the rest will look after itself. love the game and how things change.
I need money and I like subjecting myself to the terrible feeling of bad beats regularly. It's the love-hate relationship I have with donkeys that keeps me coming back for more.
I originally starting playing poker to earn money and was a complete donk..lost a ton of money..lol..now i just play for fun and to pass time..still try to make some money but ive realized it happens over time with strict BR management
all of the above, in variable order depending... D could be: Social aspect, even online, pastime, community involvement, goes good with other enjoyables such as red wine, herb, and the Simpsons.
I play for a living, so I guess its money, but you learn something new every time, and once it stops being fun maybe it'll be time to do something else.
i play because its so much fun and i have a blast with my friends win lose or draw its always fun well except when i go on tilt but hey that can be fun to lol
I definitely play poker for the fun of it, but sometimes when it gets competitive..money influences me greatly. online poker has made me a much better poker player in person, and i know that it benefits me in many other ways as well. Your reasons are exactly the same as mine..And of course..who wouldn't want to play to BECOME rich?!?!?! great post
Take Care

For every thing. I like being able to put a bad beat on people and i don't mind when it happens to me cuz you know what if poker. Every hand brings a new suprise.
Mainly A.) to become a good player. I hate losing and will work at anything until I achieve some degree of success -- it doesn't have to be lots of money, just personal satisfaction.
Right now I mostly play with play money but one day I want to try and get heavily involved with real money so I guess you could say that my answer is B to become rich. I would love to make a living playing poker.
