Why do I tilt online but I don't when playing live?

Is it just me or do I find it much easier to tilt online than live?
I feel online the villains are donkey soulless bots and so I get tilted easily.

However playing live, I get to see a face to the opponent and often enough the players are quite friendly. So when I take a bad beat or get coolered it doesn't really tilt me.

Now figuring out how to get that to carry over online...

I think the big difference is the amount of hands played. I was getting a little bit upset at times. lol
But with taking notes on players, I have noticed that I play just as many and just as many bluffs as the rest of them. I just would like to have someone fold sometime. lol And if you really think about it, they do. It just doesn't seem like they do.

I know for me, it's the absurdly great chance of getting taken when you have a good hand. Just tonight I rasied pre flop and someone else went all in, I had pocket K's so i call all in pre flop...Guys had AQ and both the A and Q come on the FLOP. for shit sake....

The pace of play probably has a lot to do with it. Online play is full of snap judgements, with most of your decisions coming in just a handful of seconds. I've learned to utilize the extra time, or sit out hands (even in MTTs) to cool off when playing online.

Online noticed the game only the stakes. How long the opponent thought before you go. Personal observations of his game. In what situations and with what cards he plays.

YES!!! THIS IS ME TOO!

I tilt and get all red and upset online when I normally wouldn't in live poker. I also feel that if I streamed my sessions I wouldn't get upset. There's a sense of accountability when you're around others that you don't have when you play online.

I've noticed the same thing although I've done a lot of work to greatly reduce any tilt online. It was definitely easier to adjust to live play and nip any live tilting issues in the bud quick. Although I feel I've pretty much eliminated tilt from both online and live, I do still self monitor and remain mindful of any changes in my play, how I'm feeling, etc during play. I also do still let myself , online of course not live, let off some steam and then try to refocus as quickly as possible. I still sometimes say things in the chatbox that I'd never say live! I think being behind the screen combined with the fast pace/more hands really makes it easier to not only tilt but to get a little heated. Which we can not have when playing poker.

Yeah as a few others have mentioned above, I suspect the pace of play has a lot to do with it.

Live the game proceeds fairly slowly, there's not a clock ticking on every single one of your decisions, and you've generally got time to cool down between hands. Online there's always time pressure (which only gets worse if you multi-table), the next hand is always just about to start, and the speed you're required to think at might start to get to you after a while.

Haha yes I know what you mean by having that sense of accountability. Even when I drive, if there are others in the car and I get cut off I wouldn't suffer from road rage whereas if I was by myself I'd see red. Maybe we both need psych treatment lol. Wonder if it has anything to do with personality types (eg. introvert/extrovert)

Lol that chat box is perfect for letting off some steam.

Poker in real life is much interesting than online. I play poker online only when I can't do it offline.

The difference from online to life is brutal, online is you against yourself only. Live, and you against other people that are there, are faced, intimidation of the adversaries, if you are a patient guy you will know how to call quietly. Already online, if you enter tilt much faster.

I agree with you completely I don't know about bots in online poker but one thing is for sure in live poker to better assess the situation of the game and bluffing is much easier

It's much more easier to tilt online when you can't see others and they can't see you. I mean, most of us are holding it back when playing face-to-face 'cause we see that our opponents are humans, just like yourself. Online is a place where you see only faceless nicknames and don't hear their voices. I bet that most people who trash talk in the chatbox are actually nice people who just get carried away by the anonymity. Most of them wouldn't ever talk or even think like that live.

There are also much more players online, especially bad ones, so you see much more idiotic plays and find opponents who are actually quite clueless about the game. That's why you experience more bad beats in shorter period of time. In addition to that, you can't see any actual chips or actual money online, only numbers on screen, so it's easier to spend that online money with just one click.

Try to keep in mind that other players online are there to play that same game just like you. They sit in front of their computers at their own homes and try to win as much as possible, just like you. And if nothing helps, stop playing as soon as you feel that tilt rising. Take a few deep breaths and try again tomorrow :)

Even though you may run into a bot sometimes, most of the time you play online against other people just like yourself.

Play more, then failures are not so conspicuous, or take with you for the table 0.5% of the sum on the account, there is no pressure there is no stress.

If you tilt in live game understand what is happening...

1) You show the table your frustration, and it encourages them to play better.
2) If you insult the wrong person, be careful, you could walk into a smack.

In a live game you know you need to behave, but online, who cares and who knows. Also the slowness of a live game lets you blow some steam off. Online, you are normally multi tabling and the action never stops.

There's people watching your reaction and when in public we are expected to behave in a civilized manner. Social norms dictate we don't act out so you are subconsciously adhering to generally expected behavior. Online poker is usually played in the privacy of ones home, therefore you can get aggravated more freely. I'm sure you hold in some frustration during live play that you don't online. This frustration leads to tilt.

I find a similar thing happens to me, online I get really tilted for time to time when I get out drawn but playing live it doesn't bother me at all. One time is was playing a cash game live raised on button with 55, SB 3 bets, player in MP who limped called and I call. Flop is A5X, SB continues,MP folds, I raise and SB shoves. He has AK. The turn is a K and so is the river and I was just like that's poker. If that happened online I probably break my laptop and I've actually broken my laptop before for losing a race.

In my opinion there are several reasons for it that the chance to tilt is higher in online poker than in real life:

1) in online poker you got more donkeys who go pre-flop all in
2) in online poker ppl generally go way more all-in when they hit something just to bluff out
3) when u lose in real life poker, you dont want to grant your rivals that u are about to tilt, so you are a little bit more tilt-proof for your own security, since everyone knows -> Tilted means not concentrated means bad decisions
4) psychological sight : in real life you got the money in front of you, its not just a number, its physical so losing it is a way harder loss for you than a number on your online account . to lose some chips you really need in real life games makes you feel way more bad than online and thats the reason why you stay cooler and tilt-proofer than in online poker

Hope i helped a bit :)
