I was watching some pokernewsdotcom videos of the big names getting interviewed, like durrrr, andrew robl, daniel cates, there so awkward lol, is it because they have spent so much time inside playing online poker?

I hope there is a connection between being good at poker and being awkward. If there is, I will probably be REALLY good one day :)

His voice and speech sounded fine. I think what made him awkward was his confession that he is an old man. You only say that as a young guy when you have the old lady waiting for you at home ...

I think most young adults are awkward these days, its just the way it is....sitting on comps 14 hours a day certainly doesn't help it

It's because to be a great online poker player, requires spending a lot of time inside. Also in most cases of high intelligence, one part of the brain is developed further to the detriment of others qualities.

Just like any anti social person that sits in front of a computer for that amount of time, i would say that durr is less awkward than he used to be though.

Dwan used to find it hard to bring a sentence of 15 words together! He's got better now since he's been playing more live poker and cash games, if you're just anti social all the time it's natural to be like that!

didn't see anything awkward at all? he has a deep voice, he just finish a day of poker and could just be tired. Ive seen one of durrs interviews I believe he was in france. they were sitting down it clearly looked durr either A) played poker all night to the morning or B) was hangover. he didn't want to be there at all and was giving the guy interviewing him attitude. He just came off as a ****y SOB to me. I really wanna smack the shit out of durr.

I may agree with fishfeet here, after a 14 hour day of poker ( typical wsop day) you feel totally wasted, and then want to crash. I have had that feeling one lucky day I got to play just short of day 2...your body is angry at you, and talking is not what you feel like doing at all. If you've been drinking too, I am sure it doesn't help

I think the vast majority of people would be awkward in front of the camera, especially when they don't have a lot of experience giving off-the-cuff televised interviews. A few probably have a natural gift for that smooth verbal vomit like you hear from talk show hosts on the radio, but I would bet that most everyone would be hard pressed to put more than a couple of coherent sentences together. I know I would be.

The way he doesnt look at the interviewer but looks straight into the cam when speaking is LOLLMFAO wierd as hell.
Exactly. It wasn't his voice or what he said. He just was weird about staring at the camera and not looking at the person talking to him. It seems to me like he has very little experience communicating with people if he does that.

I think poker players may seem "awkward" to some because many of them are very intelligent.

I think anyone can play poker. However, I also think you must have higher than average intelligence to play poker well. Many people I have known over the years that are very intelligent are awkward socially to some degree.

I think really smart people have a lot going on in their minds. They may not seem as normal as others.

Less intelligent people have it easier in some aspects. "Ignorance is bliss."

I have read in a few places that people with high I.Q. over-think many things, and are prone to stress. There were also theories that intelligent people are more likely to have mental problems (bi-polar, social anxiety, depression, OCD, etc.). A less intelligent person simply does not think on the same level, and therefore all of life's little problems affect them less. I don't know if any of this is fact - or theory. I don't remember.

This may not make any sense at all. I thought I would throw it out there anyways.

That is all.

Having done a huge number of interviews although only a few poker players, I'd say that quite a few seem awkward because it's fairly normal. I've come a cross a lot of bright people who simply aren't good / natural as interviewees. To some extent, it's a skill that can be improved which is why some people who have to be interviewed like politicians, corporate execs et al employ media trainers / coaches.
