I am curious about ppls feeling on posting personal strategies. Can't they be used against you? I am all for poker communities, just worried bout exposing personal strategies. Also, I enjoy giving and getting advice, with a lot of experience, and realizing we can't know it all.Any thoughts?

Thanks,
TxfoldemPro :D

no

I do not think so, as the best players expose their game and continue to be profitable.

Very good questions, Craig Thornton. I have similar feelings. Probably I already exposed myself here and some people can use some information against me. Maybe it's better to stay a dark horse and keep secrets. :)

Just choose what you release. Saying that K/9 is bad hole cards is not going to hurt you. Telling people what puts you in tilt is probably a bad idea.

Some time ago I posted just the opposite and I called "Indoctrination"
To me if they advice everyone to play in such a way at Intellipoker, Poker school and similar, and you follow those strategies strictly: you are easy to predict, so pros will know in advance why or what to expect from your play.
At that time they told me I was crazy, but i still don’t follow the standard advice schools of Poker!

Be unpredictable. Every once in a while you should try another things other than your strategy, but dont abandon it. Just add on new things often.

Thanks to all responders! Just needed some opinions. Anyone's strategies should be adaptable and ever growing; this is the positive fact of poker communities.

This is exactly what happened back in the 1970's when Doyle published Super System. Giving away his secrets forced him to change his game up,because people were exploiting him. I heard other pros in the know at that time begged Doyle not to publish the book. They even offered him crazy amounts of money like $100k not to release the book. I guess it didn't hurt Doyle very much.

Just tell us your strategy nobody is going to tell anyone else or use it against you. Promise TxfoldemPro on BOL AAAFUKKIT on ACR hahahaha.

Seriously though... I read how people play on here then see them at the table and they do nothing that they say they do in threads, it is hilarious.

Example: Thread says john doe plays tight aggressive early----> Actual play he open limps 4 of first 5 hands in tournament and bust calling off post flop with 2nd pair.

Anonymity isn't a bad thing. Also, never be welded to a "style".

I like to keep my username as a secret from the public but even without doing that, I wouldn't be worried. I mean what are the odds that you would actually end up playing in the same table at the exact same time with someone who has read your post where you expose your strategy? There are so many poker players in the world so I would say it's highly unlikely.

My own strategy is to be unpredictable and play hands differently whether I have something or not. Sometimes I'm checking the nuts, sometimes I might raise or reraise right away. Then I might do the same when I'm bluffing or holding something weak so even though you know my strategy, you wouldn't know if I actually have it or not. That's the beauty of it all. The point is to have a good strategy that is not easily exploited at the table, then it doesn't matter if you share it or not. Plus, we all know what strategies famous poker players use but I doubt that we would be able to beat them still. Knowing something in theory is not the same as actually being able to take advantage of that.

I think it is a good advice to be unpredictable, at the table.
I find it very unlikely that somebody can take advantage of what you have exposed, here on Cardchat.

I also think this is not a good idea to tell anybody about your game style. If you want to win something in poker, people must know nothing about your game.

the poker community is quite large. personal strategies can be used in a certain table, however be aware that your opponents might have strong hands as well. one might confuse your strategy been a failure or your opponent playing his strong hand. who knows?

I never worry to much about it. Each hand played is different than another, and there’s too many different possibilities to worry about someone completely figuring out your approach to specific hands during play.
Also, there’s so many different lines/strategies that are overlapping, even in similar positions and hands. For example balancing your ranges, or using similar bet sizes given different hand strengths or board textures.

you need to constantly play with different hands and different ranges, then you will not be predictable
