Lots of good authors. David Sklansky. Rolf Slotboom for PLO.

Try browsing through used book stores, looking at the poker books to see if you find anything you like. I happened to find a book by Ken Warren on 7 stud recently that gave me a lot of new ideas in an easy to understand way. You never know what you will find or what you will like :)

There isn't one writer who's the best fit for everyone wanting to improve. Players have different levels of knowledge, playing styles and learning styles, plus different writers may say / explain things in ways that connect differently with how a certain person thinks and learns.

thanks for the feedback guys. Just a little overwhelmed by all the info that's out there & wanted a good starting point. Not sure if reading 100 different opinions when your starting out is the best idea? Just wanted to go with one solid author and purchase all his/her material. Then maybe branch out a little after a solid grounding.

heard good things about Harrington, I mainly play tournies & sng's so his HOH series seems obvious. Heard his cash books are good too. Sounds like a good all rounder? My only concern is that he teaches a conservative style and I enjoy playing aggressive poker.

I've read quite a few good books over the years. It all depends on what you want to focus and improve on in your game at the current moment. Harrington's books were one of the firsts that I read. I think they are great and probably something you should read if you haven't.

One of the most recent books that I've read that has drastically improved my game and that I would strongly recommend is The Mental Game of Poker by Jared Tendler.

The mental game is something that was a huge leak in my game, and this book definitely helped me get on the right track to fixing it.

Plan to read them at least twice, maybe a month or two apart. And keep it in mind that any book with information worth learning is likely to be worth reading at least twice because it's highly unlikely you'll fully absorb everything in a single reading.
