2013 hasn't been the most profitable of years for me but it's an improvement from 2012. I've been watching more poker videos & I actually read my first ever poker book, lol. 2012 opened me up to more of the mixed poker games-which I am absolutely loving!!

I'm still learning to play them, it takes time & patience & reviewing hand histories. HORSE is my newest found passion. I've noticed an improvement in my NL Holdem games ever since I've been playing the mixed games. IDK: maybe reading that poker book help too ;)

I'm also learning how to play open-faced Chinese Poker. It's a really fun game that I was introduced to by a friend who plays in our local bar games with me. I'm going to my first open face Chinese Poker Tournament this Saturday. I'm really looking forward to it. 2013 has opened up more poker possibilities for me.

My poker goal(s) for 2014: 1. Improve my stats. on all my poker rooms. 2. Become an even more profitable micro grinder 3. Satellite my way into an ME. I play on a poker league where we get a chance to win a seat for a trip to Vegas for a chance to play in the 1500 event # 52 (I believe it's # 52). Win a ME. Dream Big, Think Big, Do BIG. I wish everyone here continued success in their poker goals & aspirations for 2014. “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go...” -Dr. Suess.

Nice post, good luck sounds like you have a very active mind there, I like your Dr Suess quote :) it's good one, You should think ahead and visualize your dreams if you can positive actions and thoughts produce positive results.
If it's not too complicated would you give us a really brief run down on Chinese open faced poker, what is the main difference? I like the game where you stick one of your hole cards to your forhead, geez we laugh hard when we play that game always raises spirits we just all look so friggin stupid you just gotta smile :)

I am really hope that I am in Vegas. I have been saving up for awhile and I feel I can do it. If I take action and have persistence I am confident in my abilities. It will probably take me a year but I think it is really possible.

First and foremost I want to thank you for a great post. I love these kinds of posts and questions. It surely does make one evaluate where they are and where they'd like to be. :)

With that said, I think I am pretty much in the same spot as you. I recently came back to the tables and decided to study poker in depth. I used to think of myself as an average player but in reality I was nowhere near an average player. I had my style but I knew nothing about odds, stats, bankrolls, etc (you name it). Somehow in the past couple of months I got fascinated with the game (again!) :D but this time on a different level. I not only want to play poker but I want to know everything there is about it and I certainly would like to improve my game.

So, coming back to the original question, I think I see myself being able to play higher stakes online tournaments involving not only NLHE but a variety of poker flavors. Yes, I'm also enjoying other flavors like Omaha, 2-7, Stud or even Badugi. Nevertheless I will always favor NL Holdem.

Anyhow, good luck in your journey and I'm sure we'll get back to this topic (thread) a year from now to see how we did.

Cheers. :)

Either I will be dead in a ditch somewhere or I will be a poker champion. I'm hoping for the ladder.

I probably will be studying for my college finals, but hoping I'll be with better poker results than in 2013. It's difficult no be better since this years was one of my worst poker year.

I have baby number two due next month with girlfriend so probably less online poker and more being a dad, :)

certainly am going to lower my ambition from poker I think if I focus on withdrawing -$100-$400 per month playing a few nights a week after work to add to overall income will be cool...
Theirs only so much you can buy with money before it becomes a waste/unneccesary so I think making a few hundred dollers extra to add on your wage per month is a good life.

we can always take time out of poker keep in touch and put on hold some ambition

Dunno where I want to be next year.
Certainly know it's gonna be a better place than I was in this year 4th of december.
Just spent more than 2 months in prison so it should be better next year.

Nb...didn't play poker overthere, but certainly improved my reading skills.

I try to focus on setting goals that are within my control. So for example, I wouldn't set "Play in the wsop" as a goal, but might set something like "Play WSOP satellites until I win a package or fail 50 times, whichever comes first."

Likewise, I don't set monetary goals like "Win $X per month". Instead, I'd go with something "Play at least Y ring game hands per month" or "Play at least Z tournaments per month".

For the past couple of years though, my goals have been more learning-oriented. For instance, I've been working on improving my knowledge of poker math for a while now - and probably will be for a while more.
