Will be booking it as a package with flights so I dont know nightly hotel costs. I am open to all suggestions. If you want some kind of idea I would say the Bellagio falls within our price range, but happy to go a bit more or a bit less. Would rather have lesser hotel in better location.

Merged with this thread which has loads of information in it. :)

Anywhere on the strip is a good location - the more central the better. Google Las Vegas strip and see how it is laid out. I would not stay past the MGM on one end or past the Wynn/Treasure Island on the other end.

Thanks Dakota

Just to clarify, is it a long run of clubs from North to South? or are they fairly spaced apart?

Sorry, meant nightclubs/bars.

Used to European holiday resorts where all the nightclubs are next to each other on one road, making it easy to walk between any of them.

I'll have to read through this. I am planning on coming to Vegas this year for the wsop. I will probably be playing in the Colossus II or a $1k NL HE event. I've never been to Vegas but I didn't know what would make more sense to do...either stay close to the Rio or stay at the hotel on base at Nellis AFB. The base is about 13 miles from the RIO and I would be paying next to nothing for a room. I think my biggest thing is airfare. Any suggestions?

Actually now that I think about it I might look into Space A and get a free flight. This trip might be less expensive than I thought!

Only stay that far away if you will have a car.

Ok, I was thinking about that too. It seems that even though it would be saving me money to stay on base...paying for transportation makes it not worth it! Looks like I will be deciding on something closer. I've read through this thread and have a few ideas! Thanks for starting this!

Free Stuff in Las Vegas

I don't really use Facebook, but I found this slot App (MyVegas slots) that rewards you with real Las Vegas comps. I play it in the background as I'm playing poker. I collect my points and play enough to earn rewards. If you have lots of Facebook friends, you get extra points for recommending the site to them.
Now for the good part. I have received (both my wife and I) 2 free nights at a hotel, free show tickets, free buffets....the total of my freebies has been over $1000 USD (over 3 trips, because they have a limit per 30 day period)....at no cost; except for a little time to sign up, play some and collect your points daily. For $1000, it's well worth the effort.
Now the caveat....some of the buffets are not so great (Luxor and Excalibur), but the buffet at the Bellagio is second to none, the Aria is pretty good and the Mirage OK (for free only!!!).
So, sign up and enjoy some freebies.

Vegas Freebies

There is a Facebook game, myVegas slots. If you play (for free), you can earn real comps in Vegas, such as: free rooms or room discounts, free shows or show discounts and free meals. Some of the buffet meals are only so-so, but the good ones like the Bellagio or Aria are well worth playing some games on computer. There is a limit of 3 rewards per 30 day period, so I got my wife to sign up as well. Between the two of us, we saved about $1000 over 3 trips.

It is worth looking at for future travel to Vegas.

just be careful because 75% of the rewards require a stay at the hotel you are redeeming the reward at. (such as the 10, 25, and 50 dollar free plays, the buffets, etc etc etc).

But hey, if you get a free 10$ roller coaster ride for playing the game for 2 months, nicely done !! =D

Thanks for pointing that out. That is a change from the last 2 years. My wife and I stay at the Bellagio, except for last year when we stayed at Red Rock Resort. We got 2 free nights worth $150 each. That offer has now disappeared. The first year, we got free tickets to see Terry Fator. They removed that one too....too popular, I guess.
There are still some offers worth looking at, especially if you plan to stay at one of the MGM hotels.
Looks like the free buffets require the hotel stay, but the 2 for 1s don't.
Thanks again for alerting us all to that.

Evening all

Does the Wynn have its own poker room? ie for playing $1/$2 or $1/3 cash games. I read somwhere that it was closed. If there is a room can anybody comment on the standard?

Also, does anybody know the discount to play golf when staying in the hotel? My mate wants to stay at this hotel, and im guessing because there is a discount for the course if staying the week there.

Thanks

I just have one thing to say at this time and it's about food. Sure the buffets are great and everyone wants to eat there, but if you're a normal person, the chances of overeating are high. Then, if you follow that big meal with a poker session, you're not at your best because it takes the rest of the day (night) to stop feeling sluggish and bloated.

Part of why you came to Vegas is to enjoy the poker, right? If you're feeling too stuffed, you won't enjoy the poker as much....just my 2 cents worth...

There are so many great alternatives to buffets and in almost all cases you'll get plenty to eat, the food will be fresher, and you'll get a better dining experience.

If you're at the Venetian, but don't want to pay Venetian prices for food, there's a little out-of-the-way sandwich/deli/dessert place that has really good stuff for the small selection they offer, but it's only like $6.99 - $8.99 instead of $25+ you'd pay anywhere else for a meal in that area.

If you're downtown on Fremont St, just go to Magnolia's at 4Queens, which is quite adequate. At the Stratosphere, there's a fine Italian restaurant near the poker room.

They only work if you stay at the hotels for the coupon you choose I have a friend that went there and did it

Actually just got back from Vegas and redeemed two rewards. The first was a buy one get one from Carnegie Deli (Mirage). I think it was 10,000 points, and we saved 20 bucks on a sandwich (cuz theyre expensive !).

Also got a 2-for-1 buffet at Aria. I believe it was around 14000 points, but that was a pretty good deal. The buffett was around 32 bucks, and it was AMAZING !!! Best prime rib ive ever had, fresh fruits, and the salad bar was OMG !!!!

PH is also having a promo where you can get a free buffet if you play for 3 hours in one day. We did that & had the buffet for dinner. The only reason im mentioning this is because ... it was really bad. Didnt eat salad because it looked like it had been sitting there for 3 days. They had prime rib, but on a scale of 1 to 10, i would give it a 2. The Aria Prime Rib was an easy 10 out of 10.

Highly highly highly recommend that buffet. I cant stop thinking about it =D

Starting @ The Bottom -

Sure, for Poker, check out Aria. Its a MUST. Nicest poker room in Vegas. I also really like the Wynn.

I also play at Planet Hollywood ... dont ask why, i just like that casino. This might have something to do with it:

Not into clubs anymore ... but you can use you MyVegas reward points to get free access to the 2 Bellagio clubs. If you just wanna go drink somewhere cool, check out the Ghost Bar on the top of the Palms. Just remember, alcohol is FREE when your playing poker, so load up on those free glasses of scotch ... i know i do ;)

Have fun !

Bellagio poker room is also great....you'll see many of the top pros playing there and you can get fairly close to watch them in Bobby's Room.

VEGAS BABY

Hi there!
Ive stayed at the Monte Carlo, New York New York, and a few others not worth mentioning. New York New York has the rollercoaster above it. You hear it rumble all night and even worse than that- early in the morning. They have awesome scenery and restaurants downstairs though and everything you could possibly need in their shops. The Monte Carlo was nice but if I went again id stay at either New York New York. Hope this is helpful.

Yah... and that was the most expensive 3 glasses of scotch I've ever had in my life... only Ginger Ale from here on out for me.
