I'm not a great professional, but I can say for sure that a lot of work and training give motivation and even small victories - a step forward

I believe a person should do what he likes. Do not want to play now, have a rest, take a walk, do something else. I do not like to force myself to do something.

Hi all it may sound a bit silly this but I just wondered if anyone can help me as I am a winning micro-stakes winning online tournament player but I suffer from depression and lately I seem to have no confidence or motivation to play! I just fear I will get bad beats or out played ect but when I start playing I get into the zone and it's ok but it's just making that start to play in the beginning! So my question is what is the best thing to give you motivation to start a session without no fear! Thank you all and good luck at the tables

If I were you, I would just take a longer break from poker and do something else for a while, something that makes you happy and something that you really want to do. I mean, why would you have to play poker if that doesn't feel right? It's dangerous to play a game like this when you are depressed 'cause that might even get worse if you start losing and even the best players can't win all the time.

I assume that your income doesn't rely on poker? Then you can easily take a break and wait for the time when poker is starting to feel interesting again and when you feel confident. Focus on other things meanwhile.

If you still necessarily want to play, try studying. Read more poker books and watch videos that might help you to build that confidence. Good luck! :)

You can never approach a poker tournament fearing bad beats and being out-played - that will happen in every tournament you play in - including the ones you final table or win.

You can want to win - but can not expect to win to the point that you will be crushed if you don't. Only 10-20% of poker players are winning players and only that many will place in the money in a tournament depending on the structure.

Practice proper bankroll management to ensure you have no pressure and don't NEED to win.

Then play because you enjoy it - not because you need the money - as it is likely to be a hobby that costs you some money to enjoy. :)

I am not a professional in the psychological area. On several occasions I have dictated that I just play, my motivation is money and in the background have fun. Which leaves me always at an advantage, because I know it, I'm just saying I had some fun and that was the cost of doing it. Whenever I can play for a while.
In your case once you enter these in your zone. Bring a goal of what to do with the prize, a dinner, as a gift and start just looking at the rooms. Being in a state of depression is a disease, the most important thing is to realize that you are depressed or that you need help. Do not feel bad when going to a doctor for an evaluation and how you can help you to get back to 100%

Oh yea - whatever you do - don't play in play money tournaments unless you have no money to play with. Even then play freerolls instead. Play money tournaments are terrible for your game and you shouldn't play both. When players have nothing to gain they absolutely don't care how they play.

Try to motivate reading books for poker players at first.then you ll find out how to concentrate on your aim by yourself .try to relax and be calm a few minutes .this makes your brain empty and then you play poker and this action starts to be your main one.gl.i hope i helped you.

I wrote a post to address all your questions. Was too large for a reply, so I made it a post. Poker Depression is title and it is in general poker as is this post.

Gotta get it on you.

The mind is treacherous and it can sabotage us.

What do you think... You create.
What you feel attracts you and what you believe becomes reality.

I know it may sound like a self-help guide but it's a simple, objective sequence.

I have depression. I take Zoloft, and it helps. But some days you just wake up feeling that everything that happens today is just going to go to s**t.

Why? There's no logical reason at all. Your brain is broken.

There's no easy solution. All I can say is:

- if you haven't already, get treatment.
- the more often you successfully fight through it, the easier it gets to fight through it. It doesn't get easy, but it does get easier.

Mozart and Hayden help me too, but that's just me.
