Hey people, Just wondering where I could find a micro stakes game but against some top players? Im thinking home games things like that. I just really want to play a tough game against players i know know what they are doing?
Trying to improve my game and with my roll at the moment this seems to be the best way to do it (playing good players)

Please help me haha

Playing good players is the way to decrease your roll.

You dont need to play good players to play good poker.

Play the fish and post hands, stats etc in the forum for analysis.

Try multi-tabling or playing longer. If you play volume it should take no time at all before you're rolled for 5nl. Assuming you need to go from $40 (20 buyins at 2nl) to $100 (20 buyins at 5nl), shouldnt take you that long. 15-25k hands.

You can find some (read 1-3 per location) moderately skilled playes in the poker leagues and bar freeroll games. They are not typically great players, but there are regs who play in these games 3-4 days a week. Plus there are often "side games" for cash, or people who will invite you to their home games.

Your problem is going to be that pretty much all the players that are good enough for the 'challenge' you want probably won't want to waste their time playing $2NL.

Maybe try some local pub poker games? Most of the players will be terrible, but there might be some good ones you can set up low stakes home games with. Plus the kind of people that play in pub poker games seem to be the kind that are more interested in playing for the love of the game than playing in +EV games.

The cc league is very tough, so are the cc money added buy-ins. These are STT / MTTs.

Play 6max at like 8am, choose tables full of chinese and russian TAGs and nits with full stacks and auto-topup on. That's about as tough as 2nl / 5nl gets.

If you really want to get owned then play higher like 16nl / 25nl at off peak times.

You don't need to play these games to improve yours. And why would you just want to jump into a game where you are crushed? If you are crushing 2NL then move up. Eventually you will hit a wall and will have to work a lot on your game.

I'm not looking to get crushed haha I just enjoy a tough game everynow and then I find it a lot more enjoyable being put to the test and playing poker! But do not get me wrong most of the time I'm happy to play a soft game and make easy money but I was just wondering if anyone knew a game that would give me this challenge without risking to much roll haha. I know a lot of people find it weird but a challenge is good!!!!!

I can kind of dig where the OP is coming from. From a pool players perspective, I would say it's nice to know there are four or five players who are willing to play "king of the table" for $5 a game at the bar. You have to lose a game every so often so that your fish don't swim away, but you're in no danger of being beaten. On the other hand there is nothing like seeing a guy who beat you ouf of $500 three days ago walk into the pool hall and winning $1500 off of him. You already knew from experience that you were going to have to play your best game to win, and you did.

There is something satisfying about being able to hold your own agaist tough competition. It's not all about the money, but it's the chance of winning/losing money that makes everyone take the game seriously. I just don't think you're going to be able to find the kind of competition you want at the micro level. I'm sure there are tough players playing micro stakes. I'm not so sure about a table full of them.

Just keep working your way up the stakes, and the challenges will come. Even at 4NL you can find some regs who will give you a decent challenge. It's just a matter of when and where you're playing.

Unfortunately the idea just won't work. Any players who are very good would not be playing at the smaller stakes. Unless you have a personal friend who is really good at poker and is willing to play at the small stakes with you for fun...

+1 on this. Before black friday for US facing sites pokerstars used to be a tougher site not sure about now.

Before Uigea tougher games were on the older sites with older more experienced regs. Sites like beatthefish and pokerlistings used to rate the beatability of the games.
