I noticed a very distinct pattern on pokerstars low limit DoN games the past two summers. When I first finished school last year, I signed up for PS and decided to try and learn to play poker seriously. I played only small limits ($1+.15) DoN because they were the only game I could win consistently - at least at the beginning of the summer. In the second half of the summer, I lost most of my winnings - as mediocre as they were - and ended up even for the summer.

This summer, I did well up until the July 4th holiday, then started to do poorly again. Also this summer, I used a trial version of PokerTracker. The numbers showed a clear difference in the type of player I saw before the 7/4 long weekend and after. Simply put, there were many, many players who had a voluntary played percentage (VP%) of over 70% before the 7/4 holiday, and very few after.

My theory is that there are lots of idiots - like me - who decide to try their hand at online poker when the summer starts. When they fail, they give up part way through the summer.

I would like to devote this thread to pattern observations. Have you noticed any trends of when, where, and what limits the good players or bad players show up?

In other words, if you notice that the good players play during weekdays and donks on Sunday nights at a certain limit, write it. Maybe we can jointly find some patterns that could be exploited.

 I always notice that playing on sunday/saturday mornings is when you find some good play, alot of players play all night into the wee hours of the morning and get sloppy and donate alot of chips.

I have to admit, I laughed when I read the thread title and saw your username..lol. But I can understand what youre saying. Id say weekends would be the time where most "donks" would be playing, cause if you think about it, not everyone has time to player poker yet Pros and common players are playing all days of the week, but if any average person did take the time to play, it would most likely be on the weekend. At least thats the way I see it. What your saying though would be awesome, exploiting times of the day where you KNOW your playing on a whole other level.

I thought of my name observing those people during the first half of this summer. Some of them were playing 70, 80, and even 90% of the hands. My more experienced friend said they were donks; I said "No, they're super donks."

I'm no superstar and so decided to name myself after that phrase. One day I'll graduate to Donk.

That was my original thought, too. But at least at $1 double or nothing games, that doesn't seem to hold. I was much more profitable on weekdays than on weekends. I have no explanation, except possibly the reverse of your thought. But I doubt there are worse playes during the week than on weekends.
