Where are the donks?
I noticed a very distinct pattern on PokerStars
low limit DoN games the past two summers. When I first finished school last year, I signed up for PS and decided to try and learn to play poker seriously. I played only small limits ($1+.15) DoN because they were the only game I could win consistently - at least at the beginning of the summer. In the second half of the summer, I lost most of my winnings - as mediocre as they were - and ended up even for the summer.
This summer, I did well up until the July 4th holiday, then started to do poorly again. Also this summer, I used a trial version of PokerTracker. The numbers showed a clear difference in the type of player I saw before the 7/4 long weekend and after. Simply put, there were many, many players who had a voluntary played percentage (VP%) of over 70% before the 7/4 holiday, and very few after.
My theory is that there are lots of idiots - like me - who decide to try their hand at online poker when the summer starts. When they fail, they give up part way through the summer.
I would like to devote this thread to pattern observations. Have you noticed any trends of when, where, and what limits the good players or bad players show up?
In other words, if you notice that the good players play during weekdays and donks on Sunday nights at a certain limit, write it. Maybe we can jointly find some patterns that could be exploited.
