Good luck on your challenge and hopefully you achieve your goals.
I am a semi professional at the moment, playing mostly micro and low stakes mtt tournaments and the great value Cardschat community freerolls.
I can beat those stakes but I am still a fish in the larger buy in ones vs the poker pros.

I love to play poker and for me it is just a way to relax. I am 50 years old and I have been playing online since 2007.

I only enjoy tournaments. When I have tried cash-games I get stressed. It makes me nervous and unconfortable, and I end up loose everything ;)

Right now I am trying to learn all sorts of different poker variants at pokerstars, mostley for playmoney.

I'm not a great player but i'm stubborn :)

I am not a recreational player but I consider myself a rookie player if I take the literal definition of professional I should say that I am since I have earned money played poker but since poker is not my job (yet) then I say that I am not a professional, I hope learn enough by studying and practice to become professional one day

at the moment I consider this game to be a hobbit and I have no desire to make a living playing poker. but maybe I will change my mind in the near future. if I find again enough motivation to devote more time to poker and become a regular player profitable in the long term.

I'm a consistent player who enjoys poker as a hobby. Thinking any different would be delusional. Aspiring goals have long left the building.

It's a hobby for me that I can earn a few bucks. I play every day and always at the end of the month there is a small profit. Not much, but all it costs me is time.

For me, poker is a hobby. I want it to be different. But there's always something missing. Sometimes time, sometimes the desire to develop. So I'm marking time in one place :(

As long as it is fun and profitable I keep playing. I love it but I prefer to spend time in other hobbies too. I don't think I'll be pro soon. Been a winning player for the last ten years, but I start to get bored of the game lately. Too many nits online lately. Not very enjoyable. I think live is 50 times easier.

I'm definitely a recreational player. It's just another game that happens to give you money if you win :p I make challenges for myself and take pride in the fact that I have never had to deposit money into a poker site. I mainly stick to a few select tournaments a day.

I'd probably consider my current game closer to a hobby, but really I see it as a challenge. I feel like I've given my "story" on at least one or two other forums, but I'll say a shorter version here. As a personality thing, I've always found something that greatly interests me. I then put a ton of effort and time into improving that craft (I have been told I have a ton of determination, but that is the only way of life I have ever known) and eventually become really good at it as a result. I then, for whatever reason, find something else to challenge myself. I still occasionally return back to the things of past success (to make sure I don't un-learn it), but I usually find that I retain my ability in those things in the same way that others describe as riding a bicycle: I don't forget it once I've learned it.

Some of my past "challenges" include golf, magic, billiards, art (especially drawing), chess and a list of many other things. Poker is just my most recent challenge I have for myself because I want to learn this game well and become really good at it. Why poker of all things? I have always had a natural gift for psychology and reading people. I learned the basics of the rules of poker really young (around 5th grade), but the game never interested me. It wasn't until after I was 23 years old that I literally woke up one day and thought something like: "Hey, I bet I would be good at poker." I figure that if I could learn the game and its fundamentals really well, then the psychology ability could be the small thing that enhances my game to the next level. Now that I've began playing a little poker (still just learning the subtle points to become good at poker although the rules and super basics I have known for a long time), I have found that I naturally excel at hand reading and tell spotting in others.

My recent joining of this site was primarily for access to the forums because I wanted a community to share, learn and ask questions with. :)

I am a little fish who likes poker a lot.I like the game and it is a nice hobby for me.I like study strategies, watch videos on YT and Twitch or read articles etc.I always try to approach every single game seriously. That's the way I treat the game.

Lately I also play some micro cash games(except from micro MTTs) in order to improve my range reading skills on my opponents which BTW has helped me a lot.I like better though the MTTs because the thrill of a final table or a win is way better compared to a SNG win or a winning cash game session.

Becoming a pro or a semi-pro is not for me because there are so many days where I really don't want to play a single hand due to boredom. But having a side income from winning cash game sessions or wins in MTTs are always welcome!

I wish you good luck in your endeavors :)

Hey there,
I really liked your article, I feel connected to it in several parts.
Just like you I didnt get really interested on any uni career so I took a gap year and moved to New Zealand, there, I started playing often and met some spro and pro poker players that showed me the way and helped me in my path and showed me that playing poker for a living can be a good way to live, specially when youre young and you want to travel. So Im giving myself on heart and soul in studying and playing and Im doing really good actually
