If any have followed my previous post you would know that due to my area I play more house games then anything else ( No near by casinos and online restrictions). My question is , when is talking too much? Ill be playing a hand sometimes heads up and then the flop would come. Another person who folds would jump up and down, scream loud ( as if they had part of the flop) or other indications representing they fold the best hand. I hate when this takes place because now the other player and me that are in this hand has an element of bluffing taken away or now we know that a number of outs nolonger exist. Anyway you put it , it effects the game in a major way. How would you go by taking care of this problem. Would you set a penalty, and if so What would it be? Just looking for answers from the cardschat community. Like always thanks in advance.

Tell them to STFU if they are not in the hand and that you don't care what they folded

Sounds like you are playing with a bunch of ignorant a-holes. Are they teenagers or just that dumb?

Man there are times that I got so heated that some others had to calm me down, and no they not teenagers ( thats the other problem ) they are too old to act this way! Im not a person with low tolerance so I can deal with it one time, but after I let you know its not right and it continues , then I feel like Im being disrespected. I dont feel Im being wrong at all, just don't understand how people can be that way when MONEY is involved.

I can understand one time, but comn please STFU - lol

But i relate this more to my online play; I hang with a a lot of friends on Ventrillo (Comm S/W) & we support each other & play against each other on many sites. A few of us get a little carried away trying to help one of us (no name mentioned) & they have to be reminded STFU. Seriously COLLUSION isn't funny & makes our whole group look like ****!!!
But as a support group (Railing), I find it to be one of the best things anyone can I have when trying to take it down. When you got a butch of your posse chatting in the box, it does seem to give you a little table cred (impression) - just saying -....

I'm going to play devil's advocate here and say this: The more information I can gather about the hand I'm in the better so please, by all means, if you would have hit a flop tell me so I know what my opponent has or does not have.

Now having said that, it is standard etiquette to stfu when your not in a hand.

STFU is good answer

Let them know it is totally unacceptable and that if they continue to play without observing the RULES OF POKER, then simply tell them you will no longer be playing with the group as they are cheating according to Hoyle's Rules of Poker.

Also, maybe you need to "read that rule" to them directly from the book.

Good luck, Wally

I would keep a copy of Hoyles Rules of Games nearby, have the players read through the rules before any cards are even dealt, if after that players are breaking the rules, I would set them out for say 15 minutes for the first offense, second offense would be ejection from the game, the reason for this is simple, it should set an example for the rest of the players in the game, secondly, it will make anyone else think twice before they act like this. If non of that works, then I would stick to playing online poker, at least until I find players that are as serious about the game as I am.

I would definitly make a penalty for that. I have the same thing happen to me in my home games and it really is annoying. It just totally ruins the end for u also. The penalty I would make would be just to sit out a couple hands so hopefully that would send a little message that this is a serious thing

Yeah, you really shouldnt say sh*t unless you're in the hand. There's a lot of poker etiquette rules that people won't know unless they play at a Card room or casino, so tell them these things, if you have and they don't shut up, get a rulebook and show em. If they still continue to behave like idiots, don't play with them in future.

It's bad etiquette and you just have to "educate" them about it as they probably never thought about it and don't think it's a big deal. But I have to say this: if you're the only decent player at the table, you're the one benefiting the most with the extra information, so if that's the case it's probably wise to let them continue. If someone shouts "ah, I'd have flopped a set of deuces!", well, now you know nobody in the hand has a set of deuces.

Maybe state the rules that get broken alot before the game starts and what the penalties will be if the rule(s) are not followed. Like in the movie "Untraceable", can't say we didn't warn you. This way there would be less room for argument.
Take care

I used to play in a home game where we had a couple people that would do that. We set up a rule that anyone who is not in the hand and talks during the hand would have to double their ante the next 3 hands.

I like this rule. We always used to have this problem when we played as well, however we never really set a penalty up for it.

Overall though, it was only a few guys who did this, and they ended up not being invited back.

Right on, plus a pot fine threat is a sufficient way to stop it in a home game, if all players agree before the start of the game. House rules rule.

Technically no, you're not supposed to do things like that.

But we're talking about home games here and IMO you've gotta let a lot of stuff slide in home games. It sounds like you've got home games with a bunch of recreational players in them and that's a good thing. Recreational players are in the game to have fun. If you start getting all on your high horse about rules that they probably won't even understand and penalties and stuff they'll stop having fun and there's a chance they'll stop playing. That would be worse than them occasionally giving away information about how they would have hit the flop and the worst thing would be it'd be your fault if they left the game.

In summary:

- Look at the big picture: you want these players happy and in the game, not sad and out of it. Don't cut your nose off to spite your face.
- If you want to be a stickler about rules, go play online or in a real casino

Anyone else find this statement in Bold to be a little odd?

i hate when ppl do this, at the home games i used to play at there was 1 person that always did this. After a while a couple of us just straight up told him if your going to talk (and giving away that you caught the flop) then do that at the end of the hand, if your going to talk about something else during the hand that you folded, thats fine as long as your not giving away what your hand was. Took a couple of times telling this person that, but it finally got through to him and he no longer does that.

nc royals - i thought that was a little odd too lol, if they are going on ventrilo and playing in the same games, its obvious that they are on there to collude.

Next time ask them what the five fingers said to the face. Then you show them YOUR hand.

Seriously tho, you say they are grown ups, a simple explanation stating why they shouldnt say anything about their folded hand should do it.
If not, its a bit like ozexorcist is saying, some people arent THAT into poker, they play to be social, have fun ect. And some are just really that ****ing stupid. So either you adapt to it, or you find someone more serious to play with.
