when to fold pokect aces

hi all ,i would really like to know stories about folding your pockets aces or kings,i found no matter what the flop,there could be 4 same suit,none matching your oppents aces,and i think 92 percent of the time,here is what i called getting lost in aces, dude calles you with the aces ,mean while wit the 4 the same suit on the board,chane of flushes out there are way too high,this is when i say, GET RID OF EM,there are most of the times no good in that situation.any ways that was my take

I reckon the only time i would fold aces (pre flop), is in a tournament situation where there are seats rather than cash available, i would have to be well stacked and basically assured a spot in the qualifying placings.

the only time preflop is what king said above, postflop there are plenty of times to fold - ya need to know when to lay AA down.

I feel I rarely lose with pocket aces as I try to play them right every hand, and if I know I'm beat I'll lay it down... with the occasional loss coming to two pair.

I have, however, laid down rockets preflop once. It was the very first hand in a $5 buy-in, $2000 Guarantee tourney. I raised 5X BB in early position, the next player after me pushes... along with two other players. Sorry, I can't call an all-in with 3 players even if I have rockets (no rebuys, or else I would have).

Oh, and the winner of the hand... he had pocket 8's and flopped quads.

it is probably the toughest fold you could ever make.....preflop with aces that is....but i would have to agree with the above....i have a couple of screen shots where i have folded preflop ....on the bubble...and the bettor had me covered.....aces are so over rated its disgusting....

Personally, if it is the first hand of a $5 buyin tourney, I will call three allins with my AA.

Interestingly, I show a very nice profit with my AA in cash games, but I show a HUGE chip lose in tournaments. This may be due to some very key loses very late in tournaments when I pushed with AA...who knows.

Good post and good answers. Must agree with KingofAnglia and chucksT. There are many a time I have layed pocket Aces post flop but have only ever layed them pre-flop and once again it was in a $5 buy-in when 4 people went all-in. odds were just too high for me. Result - I would have won with trips....

I agree too that there is too much hype over Pocket Rockets mostly from every darn book you read. But my eyes still light up when the fall in my lap all the same.

Most of the time with Aces I never even get to see a flop, but that's fine with me. As I believe it was Stu Ungar that said something along the lines of "Aces are only good for winning a small pot or losing a big one."

There are not a lot of good reasons to fold AA pre-flop. Bubbling a tourney where the prize is the same for everyone who makes the money is one. Maybe first hand of the wsop if you ascribe more value to playing a couple of days than your likely winnings. Etc.

But in an online tourney? I'm not saying go all in with AA because you need to extract bets, but call it every time.

Even if there are 5 people already all-in with all sorts of hands (pre-flop), and you'd only have a 30% chance to take the pot, that's awesome. 30% chance to win a bet that pays 5-1? I wouldn't be much of a gambler if I turned that down. Sure, you might lose, but your odds dictate a call.

Calling all-in with aces pre-flop is +EV every time you do it.

There are reasons not to do it, but none that from a $ perspective are tactically optimal in most situations.

Preflop, they're the number one hand, always will be. Postflop, they're just a pair of aces(unless they hit something, of course!). Treat them as such.

sometimes you just have to fold them...like when there are draws on the flop that connect on the Turn and River and they play back strong at you...besides most players u can kind of put them on some sort of draws, ya know. It all depends on the situation sometimes you just have to go with your gut.

i havnt played for so much time yet, and only folded pocket aces once. But it was necceceraly. i had AA the flop was KK10 turn 10 and he made all in there, it was much in the pot but anyway. Was sure he had atleast a 10. So i folded and another guy called him (bigstacked) and the result was a split because both had ace high and nothing more. In the other hand i had no outs, but anyway. I could win that when the bb was at 100/200 and was big money then. Cheers

Obviously more than one way to play them. I think all in preflop is the pretty much a good idea. I think the odds are in your favor doing that.

Agreed. There are many times to fold pp A's when playing through to the river. You need to understand where you are and where your opponent is. This is very hard to do if you slow play your A's.

but in that situation your clear favourite over any other pocket pair, which are basically looking for trips to win it.... I mean on the bubble, the bettor is likely to have only a pocket pair or an almost dominated hand like AK or AQ - which is looking for a straight or miracle trips with the kicker... And even if you go all in, he may very well fold - Losing half your stack is more influencial than doubling it (the way he should be thinking).

The only time i folded AA preflop is when i wrong to push the all-in button and pushed the fold one.
Or when i went to the bathroom and looking the hand history i see i had AA.
