After reading the forum for the past year I finally joined!

With the past 8 weeks running great I ran into a session the other day that could have cost me my bankroll if I didn't walk away.

10 minutes into my session my AA were cracked by Q,8 off suit. My pocket queens were beat by KK. Luckily both losses were against small stack players. Then with my remaining buy-in my AK was beat by trip 3's on the river. Rather than buying in again I shut it down, I knew if I reloaded I would be on tilt and make bad decisions.

When do you know its not your day?

a day like that obviously is not your day, imo a bad day is when one loses the big pots in the river when one is ahead and allin, then it changes the course of things, like yesterday happened to me,

i made a deep run in a mtt, remaining 60/3000 i was top ten in chips, a fish in my table was playing very loose and he didn´t like to be bully by a big stack, he had like 80% of my chips, he was BB and I´ve dealt KQs (as a table chip leader), so i raised MP, everybody folds but him (always defending stupidily his blinds), flop KQ7, i cbet just to fold him, but maybe he thought i was looking for the ace so he reraised i reraised again and he called, turn 2, I bet half pot and this fish went allin thinking i was bluffing him obviously i paid (i had 2 top pairs and a flush draw) so i had 80% of my stack in, the villain had T7o!!! so he had just one out, the 7C, since the 7S gave me the flush,

the unbeñievable river (1/44) gave him the 7C so he carryed the pot and he skyrocketed to the fourth place and i went down to the forties, but the worst was that i got on tilt and couldn´t recovered so 5 hands later i paid all my chips with pocket tens against pocket queens and i left,

so for me when one has sessions where the big pots are going to the wrong side, pots that could put one in a very deep run, and that´s for me the definiton of bad session and the other way around should be a good session when one has 1/44 odds and hit the river and carries a big pot!!

I have my doubjs about some sites with balances and your inistal deposits. I found that once get to a level with a win balance, things seem to go down hill. my advice withdraw a good portion off your balance, then make a deposit.some may say im talking off my head but its my thoughts.

Firstly, WELCOME to our Forum.

Secondly, you probably made a good decision by ending that day...at least for that session. I have found that in poker (and life) there are good and bad sessions and it seems that the 'good n bad' runs in spurts...sometimes we simply can't seem to get the right cards to play and then sometimes we get the cards only to see a terrible 'flop' n Turn. And, sometimes it appear that we can do no wrong, make no bad moves, and just about have a magic touch, but 'beware', this will likely change so be ready.

CHANGE IS A CONSTANT so be prepared to alter your play accordingly. :)

When poker (life) is giving us bad hands or difficult times, it is often best to stop the action (if possible) for a period and re-enter the game later.

Welcome to CC. This is exactly why playing in the proper stakes and BRM is so important. If you're playing in stakes you can afford to take a few hits here and there, then it wouldn't be as bad and you could play through those bad streaks. OBV, if you're playing in stakes that you can only afford to reload a few times, you shouldn't be there. Best advice would be to either drop stakes(when running bad or tilted) or just take a break for a few hours. See ya around.

Basically, this. However, I'll offer my twist. Everyone makes mistakes or at least sub-optimal decisions, so setting the threshold at making none is a stretch. I'd prefer to say that for good players, a bad session is on in which they don't make decisions as well as usual.

A bad day is really all determined in your losses. As long as you set limits and stick with them, then you won't have a ''bad day'' unless you let your emotions drive you crazy from losing AA to 22 every once in awhile lol.

I think you should always have a time amount for a session. For instance I go for a minimum of 2 hours and a max of 6 hours depending on how I am playing and how tough/easy the game is. I track my stack every dealer change and I walk away if I have 3 negative dealer changes. I know that sounds silly but it is a pretty good tracker of my game. Three losing half hours tells me I am not sharp or the game is too tough today.

P.s. are you rolled for this game? 25-50 buyins?

Many players consider a bad session when they lose money, but that is somewhat normal. I consider a bad session when I make mistakes in my game and when these errors begin to affect my strategy and my reasoning.

Thats basically a bad session. You definitely did the proper call to stop playing for a few hours. You might not be on a tilt, but your emotional condition affects your game.
Ive noticed that I hit more hands when Im happy, laughin or smthng, its a joke, but it goes like that.
Rather than when I play when upset I get lousy hands that miss everything and its 10 times easier to break my patience in such moment.
Basically a bad session is (different for every person) when I dont get even 50% of the buy-ins. I dont consider a bad session just cuz I got beaten by some random ( or not so random ) guy. Its the end that matters, not how many times you took a beating in a tournament, whats important is to stay in it.

I have a very good bankroll. Its more of a feeling I get sometimes. I know on a bad day I could play for hours and be card dead or lose my premium hands over and over again. I guess I would rather take a break from playing rather than push through. The benefit of playing online is that I can find a game 24 hours a day rather than playing live.

Its a bad session when youre winning then suddenly lose badly. And the occurrence is not twice, but many times. Its really hard to walk away since you want to get even but the more you stay longer, the more it occurs- as if pokergods are punishing you.

A bad session to me, is a session in which, for whatever reason, I cannot focus on the game.
To me it has nothing to do with a profit or a loss.
If I'm in a session and can fully concentrate on the game, feel comfortable and I'm able to play my best game (which isn't good to be honest), it's a good session, no matter the results.
Just lately I played a while, but had some serious problems to think about.
I didn't feel comfortable and couldn't concentrate on the game.
I actually made a profit then, but to me it's still a bad session tho.

I have to kinda disagree with this, you can't win them all, sometimes the cards jut run bad so losing isn't necessarily a bad session, and if I'm making mistakes it's not a bad session, that's on me and I can change that. I think when your not making mistakes and still losing the hands that you shouldn't lose, like some have described above that's a bad session and you got to get out asap.

bad session is when you feel it is bad session.. Unless you are happy to play you will start playing scared expecting things to go against you.
