The Wheel

so why do they call it the wheel?
After reading a post yesterday I was unsatisfied with the definitions given about the origin. This is the most reasonable explanation I could come up with.

A-2-3-4-5

is called a wheel because in hi-lo it wins both ways. The hi is not the nuts but it will win most of the time. the low is the nuts and round and round you go winning all the way.

What do you peeps think?

Tried to play it once while simultaneously reading an online tutorial. Needless to say, I was bad, but I learned about trying to scoop the pot and which hands you might want to play or not. My second half hour wasn't too bad, compared to the first one. Lol.

I seem to remember running into an explanation of wheel that matches yours.

It is not just in stud hi/lo the term wheel is used. In razz the wheel is the nuts, because the game is simply the low part of stud hi/lo there is no reward for the high hand. And as you say, in stud hi/lo you have the nut low, but most likely the high also.

It is just defined as A 2 3 4 5 in a low game with ace being low (as opposed to 2/7 lowball).
