These machines are being used a lot on cruise ships and smaller slots casinos that want to get in on the poker craze. They eliminate the need for dealers and all the attendent costs associated with employess; payroll, workers comp, health insurance ect.

You must mean those PokerTek tables?

The ones where you are playing other people at the same table, but everything is on a computer screen?

I believe we have Negreanu to thank for this. He's been pushing this real hard.

The dealers must be fuming.

Just in case other people want to see what these look like, I will save you the trouble googling it.

Also check out this review:

The Poker Chronicles: PokerPro

IMO it sounds awful. They put some up in Tampa. I am going there next month, so I will have a firsthand experience soon.

Greed, IMO. Have seen different posts about some BnM's that have both a room and the machines, while some have just the machines or just the live room.

Casinos know that a lot of players are too timid (and other human traits) to sit at a live table, but they can still make their rake off a machine. It satisfies their greed and gives non-live room players an option instead of just the video poker slots.

The more poker players there are, the more space a poker room demands for gaming floor space. On a 'per sq. ft. ROI', the machines are far more profitable to a BnM operator. As noted before, it also eliminates the need for a labor intensive live room.

I played a 1 table tourny on one of these. It was kind of fun. I was told they can even link up these tables for MTTs. I like real tables much better.

unfortunately, i would think that this is where most casinos will be headed in the near future. trust me, i love the idea of dealers and everything, and think it just gives a better poker atmosphere to keep things how they used to be before all this technology, but the technology is the most cost efficient thing, so these machines will work at in the wrong run.

at least no more tipping the dealer on your monster hands

This sounds rediculous. The reason for going to a casino,is to play live, real, proper poker.
No doubt these programmed machines, will deliver the same ridiculous amount of crazy bad beats, that we see while playing online!
