just got out of another tournament where i gave the guy horrible pot odds on his flush draw but of course he hits it. he called a huge preflop raise of mine w/ J 6 when i held KK. i'm starting to believe that there is no point online anymore because even cardschat players do this to me. whats the point of playing w/ 1000 donks if u can never win because they play so horribly. I threw the computer chair because i was so mad. Seriously thinking of giving it up. I mean what makes a guy call a 5 BB bet preflop w/ just a j6. Can anyone justify his play?

*shrugs*

Not the point. You were betting as a massive favourite pre-flop - bad beats will happen: if they didn't, the bad players would all run away and the rest of us would have less chances to make money.

65-70% of the time you take the pot down, and you'll be thanking the donkey afterwards for calling you down with garbage. Think longer-term and you'll be fine.

sounds to me that you just are not that good of a player. i mean, any winning player loves to see guys play those hands and get lucky with them, because in the long run u make money of this play. so although i may whine about these sorts of plays, i love them because they build my bankroll:)

1. Would you rather play with 1000 donks or 1000 good players?
2. if you paid off the J6 after he hit you gave him implied odds, if you didn't then you win long-term and it's just a bad beat don't worry about it.
3. If this play is bad, it means he loses in the long term. Where does his money go? (hint: it starts with a y, ends with a u and has an o in between) If he wins in the long term it is not a bad play. So quit complaining about plays that make you money in the long term.

Hold'em is not a 2,5, or 6 card game, it is a 7 card game. Just because you have the best hand pre-flop, the flop, or on the turn does not ensure you will win the hand. You will lose to crap like that every now and again. Just shrug it off, have a laugh, and keep playing. More often than not you will win in those situations

I would have quit playing 18 years ago if I let a bad beat get me down. Like the people above said... think long term. The donks will end up giving you more than they will be taking from you down the road. Shuffle up, deal and play on brother!

Well if you ask me. Some people are just lucky, some ain`t. The ones that are lucky know it, and take risks unlucky ones don`t. I watched annette_15 suck out against 20,000 people yesterday in a $10.00 tourney . I counted ten hands at the final two tables where she was behind, and sucked out each time as an underdog.

I think luck will even out over time, due to natural variance.

Why do some men seem to become so aggressive when they see a woman doing well (or better than them) at poker :questionm

I have no agression toward her whatsoever, a little jealousy maybe. I was just making a point as to what I observed. You have to admit that in order to win a tourney that large, you have to have an extraordinary amount of luck.

I think annette_15 is a great player, and wish her all the best, I also wish that I had just half the luck that she seems to possess.

Luck doesn't exist. Every card has the same chance of hitting as any other card. Someone can hit the right card when they need it, but over time, the percentages always win out. It's the reason the casinos never fail to turn a profit. Sure, someone can have a winning night (or even a week) at blackjack, but given enough hands, nobody beats the house.

I`m gonna have to definitely disagree about luck not existing. Your`e right about every card having the same chance of hitting. But I honestly believe that for an unlucky person that card is going to hit for the other guy most of the time.

As far as using blackjack for an example, It has been proven mathmatically that blackjack can be beaten. That is why card counters get banned from playing blackjack in the casinos.

Hey, I thought you made a thread saying you weren't going to post in bad beat threads?

Doesn't this qualify?

That last sentence was the most rational, and I support it fully.

Yeah I made that thread, it was one of my first posts this morning. When I first saw this thread the screen was scrolled down hiding the original post.

I am not commenting about the bad beat at all. I was only voicing my opinion about the existance of luck. Which I absolutely believe has to exist.

Actually that would make for a good question for everyone. Does luck exist?

It's obvious that luck exists. What isn't acceptable is for people to use it as an excuse for them repeatedly losing at poker...

If I walk down a street and find a twenty pound note, that's lucky - I don't really see it as positive variance.

It's positive variance to me. The negative collorary is when you drop twenty quid and someone else picks it up.

It's like what [SIZE=-1]Fred Chamanara said on High Stakes Poker. "If I didn't believe in luck, I wouldn't play."

For me, if I did believe in luck, I wouldn't play. How can you beat a lucky person?

And casinos don't ban someone because they're lucky. They ban them because they are bending or breaking their carefully designed rules that always give them (the casinos) the edge.
