Hi chaps ;)

I`ve commented in the past about the following:-
  1. I`m not too good at ring games.
  2. I`m up and down when playing SNG`s
  3. I`m a decent MTT player.
If you were put on the spot, what is the one thing that makes a good player in the above formats of poker.

Now that should make you think - one only!!!

My quick answer:

ring: exploiting player styles Still don`t think I pay enough attention to other players.
stts: gear changing I think I do this at the wrong time and once I start I can`t stop myself. The mouse takes control :D
mtts: survival I`m very maths orientated in my way of thinking - that is also a reason why bad beats do my head in more than they should. "how can they make that call knowing they are so far behind" type of thought. But, at the same time, I`m more likely to make the money/ final tables than average because I don`t like to lose my chips until the time is right.
I think it is also more `obvious` when to change gear in a MTT, unlike a STSNG

Thanks chuck, that is what I`m after.

I think it helps if u look at things in a very basic way sometimes?

I`ve put next to your examples why I agree based on me.

Be interesting to see if others agree or disagree ;)

I also do not consider myself a good ring game player, but I can almost pinpoint exactly why. I usually get up in chips in ring games, but in my case NEVER get up from the table. Example, 2 nights ago, playing OHL, I got within 2 cents of doubling my bankroll. I knew I should take the profit and leave, but that 2 cents teased me, and I blew it all.

There is a distiction between SNG and MTT, and sometimes the distiction is blurred, how big of a SNG is it before it really is a MTT.

Single table SNG, I think one has to start with a bit more aggression, as these are structured to be over fast. I have had success being tight till there were only 4 left, but one has to take advantage of all the lessons learned.

In MTT's survival has to be among the very top attributes.

So, quick answers,

1 Leaving the table
2 Aggression
3 Survival

I like ChuckTs answer there, but I'd prefer to say that there are several things that make someone a good player in a format. So, then I'd have to say Strategy.

SNG starts when you have a pre-defined certain number of people.

MTT starts at a pre-defined time.
