Where you a winning/losing player?

Did you play too high for you BR?

Did you disregard everything or moderate it off the bat?

How much did you win/lose in your first month of really getting into it?

I played play money at party when I was 12, there used to be a whole community where we'd play a ''pump'', you'd basically go all in every hand until you pumped 500 million to the table and one player had all the chips and then spread 50 million to each player and then just play, best times of my childhood lol. Started up playing again for real money when I was 18 had no brm, was a losing player and a massive fish. Probably lost a little over £100 in my first month. Joined cardschat became a winning player and learnt how to play properly and efficiently, now up over £600 playing mainly 2NL and $2.50 180mans. My biggest lesson was understanding variance and BRM.

What drew you to poker? When I was around 19-20 I gained interest from watching my dad play and him describing the game to me. I had heard of poker before but never had any interest in playing. I thought the rules would be too hard to learn and it the game would be confusing. At first I was really confused and it took me months to learn some basic concepts.

It is kind of odd but I actually don’t remember my motivation to play poker. It wasn’t wining money because at first I didn’t think I would play a cash game. I was not inspired by the wsop either. I honestly don’t remember.

Where you a winning/losing player? I was and still am a losing player sadly for me.

Did you play too high for you BR? No. I only played micro stakes…OK, I did play three sessions in casinos but after losing fast I quickly realized that was a bad idea. I just remember losing my last chips and then getting up and storming out of the room…LOL.

Did you disregard everything or moderate it off the bat? I am confused by this question. If you mean did I care if I lost then yes I did but I didn’t care financially. I just was more annoyed at how I badly was playing.

How much did you win/lose in your first month of really getting into it?
I lost around $40 my first time playing for cash. I lost about $200 overall not including the few times I went to a casino. Sadly, the poker trackers do not lie.

Last, but not least! What was your FIRST big lesson?? I don’t remember exactly but this video had a big impact on how I thought about the game. I watched many more of his (Split Suits) videos.

What drew you to poker? My Family

Where you a winning/losing player? Even to start with, winner now. Well, we all like to think that don't we.

Did you play too high for you BR? No never.

Did you disregard everything or moderate it off the bat? Tried way to hard when I first started & got emotional cause of it.

How much did you win/lose in your first month of really getting into it? Only started getting serious this year. Tripled my BR so far. https://www.cardschat.com/forum/poker-goals-challenges-wins-46/building-bankroll-186130/

Last, but not least! What was your FIRST big lesson?? Emotional Stability.

What drew you to poker? Adrenaline rush.

Where you a winning/losing player? Break even at microstakes.

Did you play too high for you BR? Yes, eventually went -$500 due to bad brm on Juicy in 2012. Broke even thanks to soft Poker Night games at work.

Did you disregard everything or moderate it off the bat? Stuck to microstakes at first, until deciding to gamble at Juicy.

How much did you win/lose in your first month of really getting into it? Got serious in June 2013, and won around $150 on Bovada that month.

Last, but not least! What was your FIRST big lesson?? :adore: BRM

What drew you to poker? Growing up, my family get-togethers were always pretty big (50-75 people), and a bunch of the adults would be playing NLHE. When I was 13, my uncle let me sit at the table and learn the game. Picked it up from there ever since.

Where you a winning/losing player?
When I first started, no. It actually took me a couple years to find my own style of play that worked for me. After 1.5 million hands online played now, I'vegotten some pretty good gains.

Did you play too high for you BR?
BRM wasn't really too big of an issue for me once I got the entire concept of it down. I lost my first two initial deposits of $100 when I started playing online, and after that I got pissed because of variance, that I kinda learned the hard way. After that, it hasn't been an issue.

Did you disregard everything or moderate it off the bat?
Starting out, I simply tried to emulate what I seen the majority of pros doing. After a couple of years, I finally found my own style that worked for me.

How much did you win/lose in your first month of really getting into it?
$200 went straight into the can, after two $100 deposits. Both times I started off with 10/25nl, and variance tore me apart.

Last, but not least! What was your FIRST big lesson??
Learning how to properly control myself when I went on tilt. Being able to realize that your head isn't properly in the game and being able to step away from the tables is one of the hardest things about the game IMO.

5 years ago I saw rounders... I was 10 years old in fourth grade and I knew I had to learn this game. I started in freerolls. ACR gave me 5 dollars for free and I built it up to 150 in a week. I played 25NL and lost it all, I was 12 at this point. I was naive... I didn't think I did anything wrong because I had actually been sucked out on six straight times for 100BB each at 25NL and I never moved down in stakes. Cost me my whole role.

Then I joined CC. This forum saved me. I quickly found out I wasn't nearly as good as I thought. I got my 65 posts and joined the freeroll club. I binked a freeroll at lock at the age of 13 for 150 dollars and built that up to 400... Then withdrew after hearing about locks issues. They payed me twice... So I had 800 dollars and I've been playing with that ever since.

I should be a far better player than I am.

Enjoyed reading everyone's stories of their poker history. I must say I apparently am a slow learner. LOL Especially compared to Jblocher1. Wow thats incredible and I am happy for you but where have I gone wrong.

I learned card playing in general from family gatherings. My fathers side of the family was huge and I think they all loved to play holdem and pinochle and whist and gin rummy and on and on. I dont remember learning but it seems like I was quite young.

I started playing NL Holdem online about 2009 but quit playing entirely 2 years ago and just came back this month. I love the competition and I love a game that makes you feel like a genius one day and whatever the opposite of genius is the next.

I was and still am a losing player. Over how much time does one have to win to be considered a winning player? I did not know what a bankroll was let alone try to manage one. I just deposited how ever much money I felt was expendable and then I expended it. Wait! before that seems at all impressive I am talking like $50 - $100 per month. Hey, at least I could make it last a month. I think I did moderate because I wanted to play almost everyday and needed to make the expendable money last.

I operated this way for at least 8 to 10 months and then one day decided to read a book about playing poker and I watched the poker school videos at FTP. WOW when I learned about position I was tickled. It made so much so sense and betting parameters based on the size of the blind were quite helpful. I really ate it up and became very willing to learn and very humble about my false start at playing poker.

I basically lost approximately $50 - $75 every 30 days for a year and a half. I believe the loftiest goal I had was to maybe go 2 months before having to deposit. I rationalized that it was ok because I counted it as entertainment expense and would rather play poker than say, go to a movie.

I cannot recall exactly my first big lesson. I know it probably was painful and humiliating and I fear perhaps I missed the lesson. I know that this type of poker playing is no longer acceptable to me. I think my expectations are realistic and I hope I find what I need to not be such a fish sucker nerd player.

You all can help right? Ok well, thanks in advance.:D

I always liked to play cards when I was kid with my brother or friends, even it wasnt poker. Then few years ago I was just bored in front of PC and somehow found something about poker. So I downloaded my first poker software (unibet) and started to play some freeroll there. I didnt win anything but I liked it, so I started to play everyday there 1 or 2 freerolls. Then found other poker oriented site (similar to CC) and started to play their freerolls on more pokersites. Thats how I started :)

I think 99% of players made that mistake they played waay above their bankroll :)

In my first month I won like 30-50$, from freerolls :)

When I was 14 I saw my father playing poker on pokerstars and after a few weeks I started to play it too . It was hard for me to understand how to play hands at the beginning of my "career" :), but I took it step by step and I learnt many things about poker.
At 14 years I wasn't a losing player because I played using just Play Money, but after two years, I started to try cash games and unfortunately I was a losing player. I started to play MTT and I built a nice BR. Now i'm 18 and I never play too high for my bankroll.
In the first month of really getting into it I won between 80-100$, but I lost a half of my winnings in just 3 days.
My first big lesson was how to control myself hitting something strong on flop and how many chips should I bet to win that pot.

Started grinding out freerolls on Poker.com years ago. Now I am still playing regularly on Carbon. My interest arose from watching wsop on espn.

Good post.

I was watching UKIPT poker tour on television one evening I was enjoying life out of work and I learnt to play and instantly loved poker.

Started off as a winning player Bankrolled $900+ from $30 , destroyed the field in my first live tournament was a MTT no more than 50 players,

Totally disregarded everything position was awful, range was loose had no fear and would make crazy moves against cautious players knowing no one would call without a superstrong hand.

First real big lesson was probably last year and then a realisation this year that I'm just never going to make riches from the game or guarantee a secure lifestyle without devotion to the game.

And personally I don'tt think its right to invest every ounce of spare time into poker as a family man with responsibility

What drew you to poker? I was a gambler of Draught/Checkers and dominoes, so I moved to this new community in the suburbs and inquired about the local 'casino' when I went there and seeked out a game of dominoes or draughts everyone would ignore instead they'd all be crowded around tables playing this 'stupid' card game and I was interested to know what was so entertaining about this strange game so i observed, plus I had to satisfy my gambling urge so I started playing, and that was my introduction to poker.

Where you a winning/losing player? Yes I was a losing player, didn't take the game too serious because I was young and naive until I notice the depletion of my bank account, that's when I tightened up.

Did you play too high for you BR? mmmm, It was fixed limit but maybe I did.

Did you disregard everything or moderate it off the bat? Well I was oblivious to the fact that the deck could be stacked and blanked shuffled so that was a payed learning experience.

How much did you win/lose in your first month of really getting into it?
I wasn't playing in the popular currencies but i'd 'guesstimate' that I lost somewhere in the region of about a hundred american dollars.

Last, but not least! What was your FIRST big lesson??
The guy that bets and raises the most won't necessarily win the most :(

About poker I learned in 31 years :) from the elder brother.
I liked game and its complexity not predictability I steeped in game. I played only in the frirolakh... the second place in tournament from 10 000 people was the first victory, I understood that this I had no one of the main events, big victories

What drew you to poker?

In college, a PartyPoker affiliate gave me a free 50 bucks. So obv I took it. :D

Where you a winning/losing player?

Actually, in tournaments pre-Black Friday, I was around a 60-65% ROI winner. Cash games, probably a big loser.

Did you play too high for you BR?

When I played on on my own dime, I am proud to say I literally never played too high for my BR. When I played staked...well, I obv stayed within the bankroll perimeters given to me lol.

Did you disregard everything or moderate it off the bat?

Meh, depends on the day. I was pretty steadfast though.

How much did you win/lose in your first month of really getting into it?

My initial $50 I lost, but I caught on to the game quick, then signed up for various training sites because I wanted to learn the game.

Last, but not least! What was your FIRST big lesson??

Don't jam 72o with 1000 bbs pre? :p I have no idea.
