If you were interviewing for a job as a Poker player, what would you say your strengths and weaknesses were? I'll start -

Strengths - Good understanding of pot odds and good numerical skills.
- Brave and willing to take risks
- Good feel for opponents behaviour

Weaknesses - Lack of concentration
- Fear of being bluffed by opponent.
- Lack the patience to analyse my game further.

Excellent thread, Rob

Looking at your weaknesses as a poker player is one of the hardest things to do, especially for players with an ego or for those who think they are poker's next big thing

Being aware of your weaknesses and looking to improve on them is a must for any player looking to move to the next level. Even the worlds greatest players look at weaknesses in their games, and strive to improve them in order to be the best player they can be

I know MTT's and HU play is where my strengh lies. I have improved so much since I first started playing. I remember when I first joined Cardchat early last year, when the forum was just starting and had only a small number of members, that my poker game was only average and as a new player I had lots to learn.

After only a few months of playing I had won a massive tournament but I am more content with my game now, and yet I havent won a tournament with that number of entrants since. But I know my game has improved since then

Looking at my weaknesses, I strive to pick up on them all the time. Being the biggest critit of your own game is a massive asset, believe me.

Getting back on track after a beat used to be a massive weakness of mine, yet I know that is something I have improved on recently and something I know I need to keep improving on to improve as a player

Also, you must be confident as a player. Dont be afraid. I have seen these weak players with not that many holes in their game who just have no confidence. having confidence when playing is a must for any player IMHO

I'll put in mine, although it probably gives away a few tips on how people can play against me...
Strengths:
- Lots of study under my belt to know a range of strategies (e.g. Sklansky, Hellmuth, Ray Zee, Steve Badger, Brunson, etc)
- Good understanding of the underlying maths (Maths was my big thing at school and college)
- Good at spotting fish
- Make use of PokerTracker to understand my game better
- Knowledge of how to play a wide range of variants
- Able to play different games like NL Holdem and Limit Omaha H/L at the same time without getting confused

Weaknesses:
- Sometimes timid in No Limit or Pot Limit when I suspect the opponent is bluffing but my hand isn't that strong
- Holdem is not my A game (not so important in-game, but limits the profitable games to choose from)
- Fall for slow-plays too often
- Overvalues top pair, Ace kicker in Holdem
- Most experienced in online play, so not used to hiding my tells in live play

I would like to think my strength is in one table sit and go tourneys, but still being a new player im sure my weaknesses far out weigh my strong points. The big weakness is in middle stages of MTTs if i have a big stack i know i play too tight, not want to give up any chips and if im short stacked (this happens more often that not) having the courage to make that move in time before being blinded out. Also my weakest hand would be AK always win small and lose big with it, still we live and learn (i hope)

Meant what is it about you that makes you a good poker player (or not), not what sort of game you're best at - there are 10's of threads like that. :)

strengths-

PATIENCE....very important
shorthanded play is probably my most valuable strength...(right under patience)
effective style of play....switching gears and such...
ability to cash in large mtt's...might not win but as long as i get my money back i can play the next one
effectively keep players in the pot once i spot a weak player

weakness's-

as another player stated..bankroll managment is by far my largest weakness...i play outside my bank roll 90% of the time....its very hard to maintain a good level of play when you play with the .10/.20 nl people that have no real idea whats going on...it starts to turn into a gambling session instead of a poker session...

i have no fear when it come to firing that big bet...and it has cost me more than a few occasions

sometimes i allow my ego to get in the way of better judgement....even when i already know im beat

Strengths:

- Ambitious; always looking to improve my game
- Decent hand reading skills/player reading skills
- Aggressive, but mostly at the right times
- Strong with a big stack, steal blinds well

Weaknesses:

- Little or no application of the maths to poker (in-game)
- Tilting
- Overly nervous with big stakes/buyin tourneys
- Sometimes aggression turns to recklessness - very easy to do - and needs to be fixed

Nice thread Rob - rep+ :)

Strengths- Good hand reading skills, sensing weakness in an opponet, accumulating chips in MTT's

weaknesses- prone to tilt (though it's getting better), bad bankroll management(also getting better), math, getting antsy in a MTT when card dead

Great question. Probably:

Strengths
- Pot odds, implied odds, and other maths-related stuff
- Pretty willing to work on my game, reading books, learning and applying new strategies, etc

Weaknesses
- Still learning to deal with tilt, but mine comes more from losing tourneys than just bad beats
- I sometimes make bad decisions early, and then even if I play the odds perfectly it leads to trouble... I guess I can get impatient

Ah hell, thought we were going to dissect your game. Very good thread anyway. As I am just one of your personal chip dispensers anyway, no reason to talk about my game.
