I just want to ask this one. -- i am confused.....:eek::eek:
I read some articles about balance work with life.

but still confused about the concept of what is called balance something eg. playing poker with life eg. travel, party, study, work, etc.

___

My understanding is ..

well, since every person equally has or comes with , 24 hours a day..
you need to spend some times like 2 hours , driving, 8 hours work, 6-8 hours sleep, etc etc.

the time left for a day, you are able to use it to do something , customized on your daily schedule, but if you are deciding to do this , you are unable to to other in a certain time scale of a day.

the balance means, my understanding, you are arrange your daily or life schedule , so that all things happened or going to happen in life has no time frame conflict????

___

based on that,

means that ....If dinner time, at least need to sitting out tables, ....:D:D:D:D [at least using two hands to eat and drink, but no extra two hands to click mouse and typing bet amount...LOL]

what is ur understanding of BALANCE poker and life.

ideas???

thank you.:D:D:D:D

I am in college so I can get away with playing HW and doing my work. I would think the best possible way to balance them is to have time management. This means you only play poker 2-3 hours a day and make sure not to go over unless its a sunday or something.

Would studying be better than playing actual hands?

Its important we listen to our body and respect that on a proffessional level.
If we were athletes and we had a strained calf it would be a good idea to take a day off training/competing.

same applies to poker if we have a raging hangover haven't slept or have had a big falling out something has upset us. Its important we avoid playing poker, unless its recreational like a live game with friends.

Also our personal life should be a stress free and as enjoyable as possible and we should play as much poker as we need but never forget or underestimate the importance and benifits that physical and social aspects of our life can have for our mental/physical states which obviously relates to poker aswell :)

There's no single way to learn that's best for every player all the time. Obviously, it's hard to improve without playing, but just playing is a pretty difficult way to learn some parts of the game such as advanced mathematical concepts. Those are better learned away from the tables before practicing applying them, which can only be done while playing.

I think you should split your poker time pretty evenly between play and study, especially in the beginning. That said, everyone learns differently and experience is a must for improving.

I have to say this, reading and studying lots can help, but you CANNOT adopt someone elses strategies. Use some things in the book, but don't turn into Harrington or whoever else.

advanced math concepts? give me an example of that, because it doesn't seem there are any, all the math in poker is very basic

Some of us consider even the most basic math as advanced concepts. ;)

The best balance is to keep your wife happy and play poker the rest of the time.

life, work (is not life), sleep and poker
8 hours to work and 2 for transportation, sleeping for 6 hours = 16 hours,
3 to 5 hours for social life or something and i take 3 hours for poker

Balance

They say to only play 4 hours of poker at a time because that is when your interests are peaked and your concentration is at its best. I guess you could apply that to everything. Everything in moderation.

The calculations you need to do right at the table are quite basic. But there's also other, more complex math that will improve your play not by actually doing it at the table, but by knowing how and when it's better to take certain actions that aren't "natural". The important thing isn't actually being able to do this type of math or even understanding it. It's knowing when the math points you to do something you wouldn't if you were unaware of it.

ICM is one example. If you're interested in more, there are a few poker math books you can check out. One that pops to mind is by Bill Chen and a co-author whose name I don't recall atm.
