I guess for fun, because I don't make much money...which means I must love punishment...Hmmm...frankly this thread has shone a whole new light on myself that I was not prepared to face! I'll send you my therapist's bill, Nick.

I play poker mainly for the fun and if there is money involved, so be it. I can't play any sports anymore so if it wasn't for poker i would just be working all the time or drinking like a mad man.

Now winning money is fun.
Playing a good game with good people and not making money is still fun.

Having done several things during my life which made money and began as fun only to become mind-numbing boring - it is a real joy to say after nearly 18 months of constant poker (playing, watching, reading and writing etc) it is still fun.

So - erm....fun with a bonus of money :D:D:)

Competition. I played sports as a kid and I had to give up golf as an adult due to a bad back. Poker is a challenge that resembles the one that sports used to provide for me. To me, the money is a measurement of success in poker, so money is also part of it.

Disneyland is fun but Poker is WAR! (LOL, I'm not THAT bad.)

I love playing poker. I play online because live games are not easily found around here & because my schedule would preclude my playing much even (if available. Fun or Money? BOTH. I play the Cardschat events because of the high level of competition & because of the quality people who play here. I try to win every CC event I enter but how I finish has nothing to do with my participation. My game has improved so much (although I find it hard to believe I was actually as bad as XD claims I was} as a result of these games that I am able to play at various sites & consistently realize a profit. Big bucks? nope, but a consistent steady profit. Would I like to play poker for a living? HELL NO. Playing for obsence amounts of money while hanging around casinos with the pretty rich folks, who needs that crap.

I'd have to say a little of all those choices. It's for the fun, for the money (or potential money), and for the chance at turning it into something bigger.

Recently I've been thinking it would make sense to concentrate more on the "turning it into something bigger" aspect rather than playing for fun and to win small amounts of money. I'd like to play more satellites and tournaments with possibilities for larger payouts.

I voted for fun, but if you make some money on the side, then that's even better. As in the previous post, I'm starting to play more satellites and tournaments to bigger payouts, and I've found that I can fund this by placing regularly in sng's which I've managed to do quite a lot lately(by some strange fluke!). I'd love to play in the wsop, just to say I've given it a go, but the only way that will happen is a big lottery win, or a bucket-load of satellite wins!

I play for fun but there is that little thought in the back of my head that says one of these days... Maybe.

I would like to turn pro in the future. I still have ALOT of learning to do before then but I'd like to give it a go some day. At the moment though, im realy just playing for beer money. I make a steady profit. It's small, but steady.

You can have this much fun...and make money to?....how do you do you all do that?...I thought this was an online multi player game that you had to subscribe to every month.

online poker

I have found online poker to be hard and fast. It makes my live game so much easier. Reading 'tells' is easier too. I don't win enough online to get rich or make a living. In live games I do pretty good.

As many others have said, a challenging bit of fun with the added bonus of making a small profit once in awhile.

It is also improving my live game-- took 2nd in a live tourney of 66 players and won $60 prize Saturday. That will fund a few more CC buy-ins ;)

I just like the competition. Sure, I would love to win some money. But if I lose but had a great time playing (like in the CC events), then it was money well spent.
