Small tournament $20 buy in, 16 people, nothing big.

You are dealt AJos in middle position. Blinds 1-200, 4-5k stack.

Two limpers in front of you, you limp, blind completes, and action is on BB. (so $1k in pot)

BB bets out a 2200 raise (11xbb) all in, folds around to you holding AJos with about 4.5k or so left.

What would you do?

What do you put the BB on? Overall he plays tight aggressive, but can sometimes mix it up.

I put him on a good hand since he raised so big. If he had only 11 BB and shoved I would be calling for sure, since his pushing range is so wide if he's solid on push/fold poker. But here I think it just indicates a good hand that he doesn't want to play OOP.

i fold this, if u win the hand, u dont increase ur position/chance of winning that much but if u lose u put urself in a situation where u dont have that many chips to play with. plus his shove is actually quite strong

Sorry if I explained it wrong, BB did push all in with 2200, the AJ in middle is the one in this story with the 4-5k stack.

Call if you smell luck and fold if you don't. Eventually you see his hand and even if you loose you will be able to correct his style.

Do you feel like racing? He has seen 5 limpers, people that like their cards but want to play for cheap, but are not married to their cards. He sees this as a chance to steal a pot with a middle pair and start building his stack back. I say you are just about a coin flip, If you lose youare going to have to start using a short stack strategy.

Well the twist here is that I was the BB and that the AJos called me, and I was shocked that 1) he limped with AJ in middle position instead of folding or raising, 2) that he risked at least half his stack on a hand that he was very likely a coin flip or major dog.

If he was a good enough player he might realize I could raise with a large range of hands in that position with positive expectations in the long term, but this guy wasnt that good, and he didnt know I was good enough to raise with mediocre hands in that position.

I don't need to put him on a hand. Tournament strategy calls for a fold.

I would fold.

There's no reason to risk your tokens. You are not SS and AJ isnt so strong preflop. I guess he got a pair, maybe QQ.

A dropped out with AJ 20 mins ago fom a tourny anyway. The situation was not the same of course. :)

I would fold, considering AJ os is not a good hand to call in this situation. I agree with JulieK also tourny strategy calls for a fold.

I would put him on a small pair which would leave a gamble for me but gambling half my stack is not a good play IMO. I could really be dominated and only drawing to a three outer.

I would put him on a high pair, AK or AQ but probably the pair or AK. Even if this is wrong and he has a smaller pair he is still favorite over your AJ. Fold every day of the week. What I would ask is why did you limp. You have got a good hand. He does not know that and maybe if you had raised he would not have gone all in.
