I think the first step would be to learn how to play poker.

between 1.5-2.5 hours, depending on how loose the fish are feeling.

If you haven't played in awhile, or at all for that matter, I would start out by just getting the feel of online play by playing in very small sitngos. Less risk if you don't quite know what you're doing yet

I used to play alot of these and think it's close to 4 hours to complete.

I would suggest the Daily Dollar satelite SNGs or BLT satelites to build a roll from. These are the best options considering you will be able to follow decent BRM and the games are really soft.

i would say that what ever you play, your going to lose that $30. unless your a good player, and even if you are, the variance will eat that up.

try to put more in or play the forum freerolls to gain money. there are a lot of poker forums, and most have freerolls or added money tournaments like this one.

that way you can play for free and gain poker skills at the sametime.

its a bitch at times but you got to start somewhere.

;) With $30 I'd try the 30 cent Daily Dollar 9player satelites. This will give you 100 buyins to try to learn how to play. These are very soft too so great place to learn IMO.

^^^ This for sure. Don't forget to unregister from tourney for T$ though unless you want to play the tourney. I suggest T$. I played in the daily dollar once for over five hours just for a few bucks.

thanks for the replies everyone, so far i'm seeing good results in the $0.05/$0.10 and $0.02/$0.05 NL ring games. At the SitnGos I get knocked out at the bubble or just as i'm in the money which is usually not that much for an hour or so of play as I'm playing micro stakes.

I think I'll try the ring games for a while and see where it goes and try the daily dollar sat as well.

Thanks again everyone.

you are not bankrolled for those levels. You need to be playing 2NL ( .01/ .02) as you should have a mimimum of 20 buys in to play the micros. There isn't a lot of difference in play in these levels until youget to 25NL so playing at a level is based on your bankroll. Once you have grown your bankroll to $ 100 you can take a shot at 5NL.

good luck.

Dont think of your bankroll as money, I know its odd but when you consider it money you waste pennies because thats what you do IRL, instead, try to think of it as percentages.

I would try some Big tournaments with small buy-ins such as BLT (2.20$ with a 100,000$ prize pool)

Or the 1,000$ prize pool with 0.10$ entry.

The short answer imo is: Go read the link OzExorcist posted above. Its probably the best thing that I've read on the topic and I don't mean just on cards chat.

My 2cents (learned from OZ) is find one game/format and focus on that and only that. Don't jump from MTT's to sit/goes to cash to... you get the idea. Whatever your best game is, focus all of your time and energy on that game. Its going to give you the best chance to succeed. For me its been full ring NL cash games. For someone else its 6 man sit/goes. The only thing that matters is find your best game and play the heck out of it.

Good luck to ya,

Bill

Don't be in a hurry to make money. Learn patience and try to move up in little bits if you can, preserving your little bankroll. If you try to earn amounts of money that mean something in real life, you will go broke. Right now, you are rolled to earn pennies. Accept that. Consider your gains or losses as a percentage of your bankroll, not as real money. So a day where you earn 50 cents is good. A day where you lose $3 is a loss of 10% of your roll.

If, by some fluke, you win the Daily Dollar, you will have a real bankroll. But that's not very likely.

Your goal right now is not to lose your bankroll.

I do realize that based on my bankroll it's gonna be a long time before poker can make me anything more than pocket change.

Based on OzExorcist's post I should be playing 9 man SnGs but I've only heard negative things about building a bankroll using 9/6 man SnGs and it makes sense because building a bankroll in these SnGs means consistently having to be in the money, also considering my bankroll I can't risk playing more than $1 SnGs and the rake on these games is an issue too.

I'm in the money more than 60% (give or take) or the time in these games so I'll stick to these and see where it takes me. If there's anything else I should know please leave a reply, and thanks for again for the feedback.

DONs used to be good for this. problem is its easy to collude there. personally, i would learn a game to the point where i felt relatively confident, then just give myself a bankroll for a limit where i didn't feel like i was wasting my time. if you find you can't beat it then you go back to studying the game. if you don't have enough money, get a job.

9 handed SNGs. Extremely weak opponents with a relatively good blind structure.

I would play a couple of $1 games till you get the feel of it and if you are doing good and have trust you will do good and not get frustrated move up to some $5 games. you dont have to play real expensive byins to work your way up it just may take alittle more time this way.

Patience is the key. Low buy-in sng's is probably your best option, but watch the all-in bets.
